Two knitted shawls, many hats, wallhangings, wristwarmers - sorry girls, mostly knitting.

Nanjun 11-07-2010 05:21 AM

Is there a pattern on line for "snap bags"?

JulieM 11-07-2010 05:25 AM

I am making less than I did last year, which was 8 large lap quilts and two king size bed quilts.

Work in progress; one twin size lap quilt, made for two, needs basting, quilting, binding. I am half way finished piecing my sons quilt, which is a chinese coin quilt.

Making another lap quilt large enough for two.

Placemats, 5 sets of 4, fabric is cut.

I need to get off of here and get busy.

Don't think I'm lazy or not caring, but this year after so many years of making quilts, afghans, sweaters, tote bags, etc I'm unable to do all that with my moving situation as it is, so, forgive me ladies, I'm giving money this year so they can do their own shopping.

MerryQuilter 11-07-2010 05:27 AM

Last year I got upset thinking off all the money we spend on toys and stuff and no one remembers what they received anymore, so I decided not to buy anything but to make all my presents to everyone for Christmas. It turned out to be the best Christmas we ever had, my son did the same and his gifts made some cry it was so beautiful. I always thought that gifts that were made for someone had so much more meaning and the love that goes into is priceless.

Where did you find a pattern for a sweatshirt jacket? Are you actually sewing a sweatshirt jacket or are you making a jacket (decorated) out of a sweatshirt? I am looking for a pattern to use sweatshirts as a base and sew material srips onto them to make a more of a designer jacket. Is that what you;re making? If so, do you have a pattern? If so, where did you get it and what is it called?

Just finished the top of a Christmas Sample for my daughter. I sent it off to be quilted. It had to many different sizes of blocks, and I just didn't know how to quilt it. Also saw a cute placemat in Quilter's World using the hand prints, and 1 shoed foot of a child to make a reindeer placemat. Justed stated that for my grandson and granddaughter.

mtnmama 11-07-2010 06:11 AM

I have made a quilt for my son and 1 for my DIL. Some cloth napkins and I have embroidered beach towels for each of them.

Zephyr 11-07-2010 06:15 AM

We have four children and I am making placemats for each family. 16 in all, and I have 5 yet to finish. Maybe I can put pictures on when I finish sometime this next week.

PattyS 11-07-2010 06:48 AM

Christmas? I haven't even thought about it. I am having trouble getting in the mood to sew. I go in my sewing room and see all the projects I need to work on and am overwhelmed. I am still recovering from knee replacement with therapy three times a week and tired so know that has alot to do with it. Maybe today will be the day.
Merry Christmas, oh it should be Happy Thanksgiving first!

Robinmg 11-07-2010 07:15 AM

I have 2 1/2 quilts to complete. I keep telling myself to get off the computer and get busy. I have decided that someone will get an unfinished quilt. I wish I could take about 2 weeks off work and just work on them every day.

IBQUILTIN 11-07-2010 07:19 AM

mug rugs, table runners, sofa runners, 2 quilts, a couple of aprons and start a commissioned quilt from antique blocks

hillgal 11-07-2010 07:22 AM

Making table matts for the crochet Christmas trees I am crocheting to set them on. Also making some runners.

rylie 11-07-2010 07:34 AM

great idea!

stevendebbie25 11-07-2010 07:45 AM

I'd love the pattern of the snap bag. Can you share or PM me?
And I love the idea of Batik napkins, never thought about batik before.
I had a goal of a quilt for each member by Christmas, needed 20, but only got 9 to the quilter, but only 5 back, one ended up being a wedding quilt. Have 12 to go? Won't make it, have 4 cut, but no way. So I changed 6 to either flannel or fleece or mica blankets, and crocheted around 4 polar fleece blankets for toddlers. We have tradition of homemade christmas gifts, like food, my eyes where bigger than my (stomach) or ability/time.
I also do machine embroidery, so each family is getting a blanket (6), making aprons (8), slippers, child totes (6), Holiday table clothes with set of napkins (6), kitchen towel sets (7 days x 8), FSL ornament set of 12(for 8), set of bath towels (20), set of kids beach towels (6). So, LOTS of embroidery to get done yet, and working on the 6 twin quilts & a king for mom.
Oh, and I do lots of home canning, everyone gets a case of asst. jams & a case of salsa, sauce, pickles.
Isn't Christmas the best time of year, I love making gifts!

Melis 11-07-2010 07:46 AM

For my sewing Girls I plan on making those nifty sewing table trash bags with the pin cushion top :) Maybe even one for me!

stevendebbie25 11-07-2010 07:49 AM

Melis, AFTER Christmas, if I sent you fabric, would you make one for me and I'd pre-pay postage? Or pay for your making it too. Could you PM me if you can?

Connie in CO 11-07-2010 07:55 AM

So far i've gotten pillowcases done and i'm starting a oven dress. Those snap bags are wonderful.I've made so many of them.I make them up using two fat quarters and selling them at my local quilt store.I can't make them fast enough.

Jo Mama 11-07-2010 08:08 AM

I'm making pillowcase sets and no-pill fleece socks and slipper socks.
Love to make pillowcases so much I donated ALL my pillowcses (except the embroidered ones my Mom made) and made all new pillowcases. Also made 22 cases for the million pillowcase challenge. When I make a quilt I try to make coordinating cases. These cases are the easiest things to make ever.

Hi, Well this will be the first time in quite a few years that we will be here at home in North Yorkshire.I have taken homemade gifts to Germany each year and made stockings, cones.birds etc. This year I would really like to make a hanging for over the mantlepiece - know what I mean? It will have to be fairly simple because after years of quilting my hands are getting less supple. So this is a plea to all you lovely patchworkers for ideas. love to you all,Letty.

stevendebbie25 11-07-2010 08:21 AM

Connie in CO, where are you? My husband was born in Greeley & raised in Cortez. Do you know any Kutchers or Dennisons? Anyway, I'm interested in the "oven dress" you mentioned? What is this? Can you share a pattern?
You can PM me if you'd like.

Rose Lee 11-07-2010 08:22 AM

I made two quilt tops the same except for size, Mother/daughter, now all I have to do is quilt them, this is for my grandaughter and great gd.. I have also made casserole carriers, and coasters,

mar32428 11-07-2010 08:23 AM

I have five quilt tops ready to go. Don't know if I'll finish all of them but my family is patient. Also making PP Christmas cards for my ASG group.

stevendebbie25 11-07-2010 08:27 AM

I like the pillow case idea, maybe machine embroidery across the top of the flat sheet also?
I forgot I made stockings for the grandchildren also.

I'm making machine embroidered totes for our public library & bookmarkers, they'll sell very cheep but use the funds to help the library. I donated boxes of books to the public & school libraries last year, cleaning house.

I'm also making a multi-framed collage of embroidery designs to 'location specific' as wall decor at the ambulance bay, fire dept., local barber, a few places around town, sort of an appreciation thing. We live in a very small 1200 pop, town. One year, I made gifts for garbage collectors & mail men & newspaper child. Now we live in the country, so I only have the mailman to give to.

I'll have to go buy bed sets, I do like the idea of pillowcases, but would add the embroidery on sheets to match. Thanks.

Re 11-07-2010 08:29 AM

Hey guys....ah girls...I would like a pattern for the snap bags and didn't someone mention slippers that make into a bag...or did I read it wrong.

Are they easy enough to make...you all know Christmas is only
about 47 days away!!! Yikes....I haven't started anything!!

stevendebbie25 11-07-2010 08:34 AM

didn't know that count down number, ouch! I decided to go visit my husband (lives 4 hrs away for work, has an apt. here), and he's stuck on a drill rig now for days. I'm making ornaments here. Maybe I should be home working? Tough choice, hoping he comes back soon.

The slippers I do are on machine embroidery, nothing into a bag, sorry. I buy the embroidery blanks and my mom is super into Rosemaling (Norwegeon design), so I'm making her items with this. And totes & shirts, everything she gets has this Rosemaling, beautiful.

fivepaws 11-07-2010 08:49 AM

Bow-tuck purses. Four down, four to go.

Re 11-07-2010 08:52 AM

I have two embroidery machines.... or I should say I have a single needle and my husband has a six needle machine...do you purchase the slippers and than place a design on therm?

stevendebbie25 11-07-2010 09:14 AM

http://www.sewphisticatedstitcher.com/
This is one place to buy embroidery blanks, I like their prices and quality.
There is a wholesale spot, that is discountembroideryblanks, and you have a $75min order there, can combine even 1 item toward it. I go there first, then back to sewphisticatedstitcher for items not at discount.

Drew 11-07-2010 10:22 AM

I am making a few lap quilts, but right now am making Mug Rugs for my husbands teaching partners and my colleagues at work. They are a great deal of fun!
