All of you sound so ambitious! I have found I have loads of Christmas fabric scraps so to use them up, I'm cutting them into 3" wide strips and sewing them end to end. After I have made my "fabric square" out of all the scraps I fold them in four, pur on a batting and binding I cut as big a circile as possible. Then it's use a decorative stitch in all the lin es of stitching, make the hold and bind. I hardly have any scraps left and can now go on to other things.

Oh - your kitty looks just like mine. Mine is a sweet little girl with extremely soft fur.

What are people using the snap bags for? And is an oven dress an apron?

Hey! I'm so curious.....what is an over dress?

That's me too! I just can't get unstuck from the mud right now to get anything done! I'd be thrilled if I can finish top quilting Le Jardin quilt, then I can start on everything else.
Blessings,

Love the snap purses. I have done 18. These are great for almost every lady on the list and a great stash user upper. Hairdresser, gals t work and granddaughter asked for a smaller one that she can carry her pencils in.

SandyGail 11-07-2010 06:48 PM

My 4 grandchildren are getting Christmas quilts. Son is getting rag quilt, great grandsons are getting an applique "Things that Go" quilt and the one one is getting a rag quilt. Son in law is getting Steelers quilt. I have one rag to finish & the machine applique to go-plus quilt 2 of the quilts. I was not thinking when I decided to do so many!!

Debbie1 11-07-2010 07:39 PM

My daughter moved back in temporarily and her family part time until she finishes her testing for her CPA exam so I have NO sewing room. So no quilted Christmas presents this year!

betty westercamp 11-07-2010 07:50 PM

Hi, I am new to this board, but love it. I am making casserole carriers and coasters for Christmas. I love to sew.

geckogirl 11-07-2010 07:50 PM

Last year my siblings (all 5) got fabric covered photo boards that had a picture of all 6 of us on it :-)

The year before that my youngest brother got a no-sew fleece blanket made out of duck hunting camo (which he still uses and all his friends LOVE)

THIS YEAR, I am making my younger sister, step-mother-in-law, and sister-in-law no-sew fleece blankets. I have the fleece for two of them and the bottom fleece for the third. I am going to buy a top for the third blanket the day after Thanksgiving when Hancocks has their sale :-)

betty westercamp 11-07-2010 07:52 PM

I am curious about the snap purses. Anyone have the pattern? Thanks

pastormarilyn 11-07-2010 08:23 PM

This is cute, but I have never heard of a snap bag. What is it specially for? Thanks

Lady with Thread 11-07-2010 08:34 PM

I just finished a string quilt tonight for my cousin for Christmas. She is going to be surprised because she's been waiting on a quilt from me for the last 2 years. She has no idea she is getting a quilt.

kitsykeel 11-07-2010 10:49 PM

quilts for granddaughter and son-in-law. Door or wall hangings for daughter, daughter-n-law and friends. That's about all I can get done between now and Christmas. Wish I had started sooner, but I say that every year.

Fancy Nancy 11-07-2010 11:21 PM

8 lap quilts; 3 rag quilts; one baby quilt and 3 bow tucks. have one rag quilt and two lap quilts completed. working on binding on two of them now. One process of quilting. Two still being pieced. Two of the rag quilts cut out and ready to assemble. One bow tuck started. Two in planning stages (can't decide on fabric). Baby quilt still in planning stage also - can't decide on fabric and pattern for sure.
also presently trying to get my son's birthday quilt finished for before Thanksgiving, when he comes home from school for break. and that should do it!

Becky Crafts 11-08-2010 03:13 AM

Laprobes with matching pillows, teddy bears, dolls, tote bags, afghan, kits for DGD to make on her new sewing machine, brocade hair scrunchies and a baby quilt. Still need to start/finish one more lap robe and another baby quilt by Christmas. I'm getting very stressed here now!! LOL!

Jo Mama 11-08-2010 03:44 AM

To MaryAnna,
I bought the fabric and got the Le Jardin pattern about 3 years ago and still have not started. The fabric looks so pretty all folded and tied with a pretty ribbon. Just can't touch it...Hope you have better luck. :-(

Your gifts sound very interesting. Could youshow examples of what glass overlay andd pop bottles filled w/goodies look like. I love unusual gifts...this intrigues me.

My grandson has a half sister and a step sister so I've made quilts for all three of them. I still need to finish the bindings - that will keep me busy until Christmas Eve!

Shikadee 11-08-2010 07:30 AM

Thank you so much!

laffygiraffe 11-08-2010 07:45 AM

I have several projects in the works.
I bought gold-threaded brown and black paisleys to enhance my good dishes. I am making 2 sets of table runners and matching napkins for me and my son's family.
Then, I have a huge cache of 1 1/2 squares in navy dotted swiss, goldish polished cotton, and white with navy for a lap quilt for my father-in-law (age 89.) I am searching for a cool pattern. So far I like a on-point, nine-patch with alternate plain blocks (since the dotted swiss also is bigger pieces.)
As soon as the quilting is done on the current project, a pre-printed patchwork teddy bears in denim blues that I am hand-quilting for longevity, I will begin. It is for my new grandson( Hunter-2 months old). I call these "drag-arounds." I give them to my grands to actually USE! I want them raggedy.
I also sorted out some pink, etc. squares that will be my granddaughter's quilt for her 12th birthday in August. Butterflies and flowers and looks like Easter egg colors.

I haven't got a clue :( I have had so many unexpected expenses this past year, Christmas is going to be slim this year.

I have nothing "planned" to make, but usually end up rushing to do something that last couple of weeks.

mrsreeves2 11-08-2010 01:01 PM

3 quilts. 2 are done. I MUST get busy!!!!

Prissnboot 11-08-2010 01:03 PM

What am I making? Hopefully not too big of a mess! I have 3 quilts in the works, one of which has to be done by Thxgiving - a queen size and it's getting ready to be machine fm quilted. Another queen size is still being pieced together, and a 3rd is a paper piece masterpiece! It's going to be anyway, once I get it done! Then hopefully a wrestling paper piece for my boyfriend.....but I won't kill myself if that one's not done in time....

Annaquilts 11-08-2010 01:07 PM

I want to make lots of stuff, pincushions, bags, quilts, pillow cases etc. Sofar all I got done was 2 twin quilts and I am in the middle of quilting an other one.

Sorry and ))))Hugs(((( I know Christmas can feel overwhelming especially when finances are not too great. We all know it is not about gifts and money but when you have no money it is rotten.

If you have any stash and thread you can find cute free patterns online for pincushions and bags. One year I made these smart bags that had no batting. All my quilt buddies and some of my children got those. They were well liked as were humbug style bags with a little zipper. Those make nice gifts even for guys/boys and they do not take as much fabric. I found pillow cases more pricey to make as I had no yardage of the same fabric so I had to go out and buy.

Wishing you the best and praying for a change in your situation.

I guess you'd call it a gag gift.

I hope you'll post a picture when you're finished. I'd love to see it!

Also, Cabinqltr posted a link for a tutorial for snap bags back on page 2 for those who missed it:
