I guess you'd call it a gag gift.

I hope you'll post a picture when you're finished. I'd love to see it!

Also, Cabinqltr posted a link for a tutorial for snap bags back on page 2 for those who missed it:

Pocket hand warmers (6 pairs) and an iPhone case. Other than that, food items.

OraLee 11-08-2010 02:58 PM

What are pocket hand warmers ?

kathyd 11-08-2010 04:46 PM

4 Christmas sofa quilts. I'm using the fun-n-done method. I have 1 finished, #2's blocks are mostly done and #3 & 4 are all cut. The best part is that there is no hand work using this method. I'm also using up a lot of Christmas scraps. I pressed and cut all the strips last winter (after Christmas). These are for my 3 daughters and one of my nieces. Wish me luck!!!
I'm also making 2 baby dolls. 1 is completely finished and the second one is waiting for hair and a dress.

I'm actually **thisclose** to being done with my christmas presents. I take care of the girls, and the boyfriend takes care of the boys.

I have to embroider two kitchen towels for my boyfriend's aunt, and then sew 5 fleece blankets for extended family's kids - i already put their names on them, just have to stitch together.

(they are super simple - one yard of front, one yard of back, embroider name, stitch right sides together, turn right side out, stitch again, done!)

Here are pictures of my finished projects:

This was my first attempt at the snap bag. I did put darts at the bottom to create a 'bottom' ... I'm not completely happy with the stitching at the top and plan on adding some embellishment to cover it.

I want to make more for my 3 granddaughters and a large one for myself.

I love your hanging. It would also look good as a table runner and place mats. Do you have a pattern for this? Would you post it, or the instructions? I would love to make it.

lauriejo 11-09-2010 09:23 AM

Hmmmm I think I need to put myself up for adpotion! LOL
I don't think I've received a handmade gift since my mom died, her gifts were amazing.

ejudy 11-09-2010 09:37 AM

I can see that an embroidery machine is on "my" list.

lynnie 11-09-2010 12:16 PM

everyones doing such nice things this year!

grammy17 11-09-2010 12:38 PM

I'm making me a tablecloth. Plans are Thanksgiving on one side and Christmas on the other. WIP Thanksgiving side laid cut and half sewn. Christmas side is still in my dreams. It will be simple. Finishing a quilt for one grandson. then we will see what's next.

Derla 11-09-2010 01:47 PM

I made all 16 grand children a quilt a year or 2 ago, so this year will be a bit less. I've bought bright colored terry hand towels and have used my embroidery machine to put their monogram on along with something they are interested in - one grandson gets a drum embroidered on his towel, another a racing bike. A grand daughter who is on the women's ice hockey team at her college gets an embroidered female hockey player on her towel. But what do I do for my kids?? I'm at a loss and there is not much time left!!!

barbrn1128 11-09-2010 03:49 PM

how do you make that beautiful snap purse. barb

I started the scrap quilt for my father-in law- a lap quilt for a big man-45 X64) I am using snowball nine-patch for the middle and then making 4-patch and 9-patch borders. It is navy, goldish, white and dark, royal blue/beige/white stripe-all scraps.
Boy, the dotted swiss navy and the goldy corners really is bright!
2 more squares to quilt to be done with my grandson's bear quilt, then binding and send. Since everything was from yard sales or leftovers except the binding, the shipping costs more than the whole quilt!
The name of the runner pattern-is Crazy Loon! Fits. I thought I had made it up-haha.

Re 11-10-2010 09:23 AM

Kathy,

What is the fun and done method?? :?: Never heard of that one. Also, is #2, #4 a certain pattern? Sounds interesting, let us know.

I've had several oven door towels, but none as cute as the oven door dress pattern shown. (the yellow and white one). Might have to start a couple for my evening TV watching time.

ediedarlene 11-12-2010 07:19 AM

I love this!!!! It is too cute!! Where do I get the pattern for it? Are they hard to make? I'm just getting my feet wet in quilting, have only done hand piecing and hand quilting, mostly because I don't know how to use my sewing machine  , but these are really cute bags.

quilterguy27 11-12-2010 03:26 PM

And guys, please don't forget about us. I'm not making any quilted gifts this holiday season. I'm making macrame' plant hangers. That's not to say I'm not quilting, just not making any gifts.

I'm making eight quilts approx 45" x 54" for a co-workers grandchildren. It started in the summer with one, then in sept he asked if I could do one for each. He's paying for the fabric and alittle for labor. I have 3 quilted, 3 tops and 2 not started. Goal is to have all completed by the end of Nov, so I can do my own stuff.
