I'm game to go shop no matter what its called. I really do not need any more "material", "cloth" or "fabric", but if someone waves a wonderful "sale" ad in my face, I'm ready to at least look. grin.

Terms change and are also different in different areas. As long as you are understood, does it matter.

My mother always said cloth, too. Maybe it is a regional thing, like grocery bag or grocery sack? piecefully, the old one

My mother owned a fabric store in the late 50's early 60's...it was called Fabric Fair.....but in home economics we were told to buy material.....and we were to purchase it at my mother's shop...Fabric Fair....so go figure
