I'm so sorry to hear about your Oscar. I used to have a huge one named Bertha.

I ended up not getting a single thing done today. Got so sleepy around noon that I laid down for a nap and just recently woke up. Another wasted day!

Gemini Dolly 10-18-2010 02:08 AM

No goals here for sewing today, but if I get the urge, I might just pick up my needle and thread and stitch another block. Lately, I have become very interested in hand piecing.

I'm going to learn how to do a self binding on a baby quilt. Any and all suggestions will be most welcome, (especially how to turn the corner neatly!)

Connie Merritt 10-18-2010 05:20 AM

I am having an exciting day today. On Saturday I traden in my old SUV for a newer (a 2005) Subaru and I pick up my new car this afternoon. I am a bit nervous being and doing this by myself but I am happy with the procedings and with the dealer and with the price I got for both trade in and purchase. Wish me luck quilters and good health in and with my new car. Then once I calm down I have to clean house (UGH) then happily I well work on my Christmas projects. Happy Happy everyone.

Do you mean using the backing for the binding? That's my favorite way of binding. I think there was a tutorial a while back on this. This is the way I do it; I cut my fabric twice as wide as I want my binding, for example I cut mine 1" for a 1/2" binding, fold and press the backing over to meet the batting, make a miter in the corners and machine stitch that, trim the excess, turn it, then press the binding over the top, use some of the Roxannes or Elmers school glue to stick it down, and voila I am ready to stitch it down. Eazy Peazy. If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me. I am going out to "play" for a while but will be here this afternoon.

Old Owl Gray 10-18-2010 05:40 AM

Finishing and mailing a GD felt pillow project and complete a sweatshirt project for her sister. May end up at Goodwill but oh well. Working on a quilt made of ties for another GD's graduation. No end as Christmas bears down on us.

I too have had a round of not feeling well with strep throat and near pneumonia but I do not think I feel that good yet.

SandraD 10-18-2010 05:57 AM

I wish I had time to quilt today. Ugh! I work all day and then have a Council Meeting tonight followed by a workshop. I may get home by 9 or 10pm.

GammaLou 10-18-2010 06:03 AM

I like to sew every day, just some days, can't fit it in!!

I will be working on some costumes for Church pageant and hope to get to a new quilt block (6"):( within the next day or two.

Then, I get to start on my next quilt for the DGS bedroom. Will need two twins for that. Should be fun.

GammaLou 10-18-2010 06:06 AM

Oh, and we are leaving for Paducah Ky on Thursday. Going to see the Quilt Museum!! I am so excited;)

polly13 10-18-2010 06:13 AM

I am invited to lunch on Thursday so want to decorate a kitchen towel with a Fall machine applique design and quilt some pot holders in Fall colors for a hostess gift.

reginalovesfabric 10-18-2010 06:18 AM

I don't have any sewing goals for today for I'm at work but yesterday I set my sites on pinning in a quilt, putting the binding on a christmas gift and putting a top together. I got all that done plus binding on three baby quilts and I cooked lunch and went to mass. Makes me tired just tying all this......

zactanls 10-18-2010 06:19 AM

Have to go to the dentist today then with my significant other and pick up his granddaughter so no sewing for me today

damaquilts 10-18-2010 06:24 AM

I have a quilt that I am hand quilting I am going to work some more on today. My goal is to finish it while I am house sitting this week. All except the binding. I only brought this so I could concentrate on it. I started it back in 03 while I was recovering from surgery. The recovery took months so I had plenty of time. It is all appliqued. It was my first hand appliqued quilt so not perfect but it is going to my granddaughter eventually . Her mom gave me money for the sashing and backing and to finish it for her about 5 yrs ago figured it was about time. lol And it will be on UFO that doesn't have to be packed and moved.

cbridges22 10-18-2010 06:43 AM

I wish I were quilting.I am altering costume for a play that opens Friday night.I hate alterations but it seems I the only one who sews.

Ripped on Scotch 10-18-2010 06:48 AM

My goals for tonight when I get home from work are.. Finish my D9P top, I just have to add the borders to it now. and stop by the quilt store and buy the "Fight like a girl" quilt. I have till saturday to finish that top up and then I can quilt it on the Gammill at my mothers, for my Mother-in-laes birthday. It may be a stretch but it only a lap quilt so it shouldn't be too bad. Then all day Saturday I'm putting my Ipod on and going to town on the quilts.

arpdesigns28 10-18-2010 06:53 AM

Sewing goals for today:

1. Figure out the border quilting design.
2. Execute Goal #1
3. Afterwards, pick out all of the other border quilting design blunders from yesterday (extremely small stitches >:( )
4. Trim it off and bind the quilt.
5. Hopefully, after studying for tomorrow's Calculus exam, finish any remaining outstanding items with the quilt.
6. Name the quilt. People have said the quilt is just too pretty to not name it.
7. Stop sewing, really.

brendadawg 10-18-2010 07:05 AM

Gosh, grann -- and I'm just hoping to dig through the piles to get to my scissors and sewing machine (LOL). You inspire me!

Debbie B 10-18-2010 07:20 AM

Wow...you are one busy woman! Congratulations on your good heart report. I am going to finish up my first Bow Tucks tote today. I'll post a picture when it's finished. I have to go buy a button. I do have a lap quilt that is in the process of quilting. I may try to do some work on it. But, what I really need to do is some housework....ha!

quiltlady37 10-18-2010 07:21 AM

I think we will be cleaning the garage today. Sunday is our annual pumpkin carving party. We have so much fun. Been doing it for 27 years.

Just went on the western Massachusetts fabric shop hop this weekend with my 2 daughters. It was lots of fun and we got lots of great ideas - and lots of fabric! - Today I have to wash and iron it all so it will be ready to use.

My chores today consisted of 1. getting DS to school without a fight. He won. 2. change the kitty litter - done. 3. Shave the dog - done. 4. get my bag ready for quilting club this afternoon - we're starting on a bargello! 5. get my donation quilt on the frame and quilt it. 6. get the 2 kids charity quilts that I picked up at guild last week on the frame and quilt them. 7. Got part way to work and the sewing machine was calling me. Home again I have some vests for Halloween to make at the request of DGD's. Thankfully I have a job that I can take time off when the sewing urge takes over.

Clara101 10-18-2010 08:38 AM

I need to tear out a block on a quilt, replace a piece that had a flaw I didn't notice, put it back together, add the border and iron. Then take it to my quilting friend to have it quilted. (Maybe I will do that part tomorrow.) LOL

LoriMcc 10-18-2010 09:09 AM

Matilda 10-18-2010 10:15 AM

for now I am stuck, just had shoulder surgery 3 weeks ago. I did go in this am to try to do some sewing but to no avail. I do however want to finish my UFO's before I start anything else, hopefully within a month. I have so many things rolling around in my mind that I am itching to get started.
