Love this idea!

I picked up a wooden paper towel holder at GW. Had DH put an eye screw at the top and use that. It has a spindle on one side I sit the thread on and a longer piece the paper towel roll would slide on. The screw went on the piece the towel would normally slide on to. It works perfectly and was a lot cheaper than the thread holders.

This is a great idea too!

Nice! Another great idea.

Instead of spending nearly $20 on a cone stand, I bought an inexpensive banana hanger. Set the cone at the base inside the "legs" of the stand, run the thread up and over the hook and then to your machine. Works great!

What great ideas for a holder. Yes, I plan to make my own & am really happy for all the suggestions. Do I need a tall mug or just a standard one? I've never bought a cone before & am not sure what size they are. I ordered mine from Superior Threads.

I first used a short glass, this worked well with a safety pin attached to the back of my machine, to put the thread through before threading the machine the normal way... then I bought a pretty cone stand. Both work well!

Quilt in a Day currently has their thread cone holder on sale for today only. Looks pretty sturdy to me.

Check out my tutorial for today - you may find a solution you have in your sewing room already.

I don't want pin or paper clip stuck to my machine. If DH saw I accepted one little make do fix as okay, our house would be unpainted plywood and exposed pipe fixes with duct tape repairs. LOL
