Last year at this time, we had a What's Next thread that lasted us all year. It was a way for some of us to keep track of all the projects we wanted to finish in the year. We could add and remove from our lists. We had a corresponding pictures thread in the pictures section as well. How about we do another one??
Here is 2009's http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-15030-1.htm Here is my list: 1. Finish the 3 D9P's for my boys. All they need is to be basted, tied, and bound. 2. I made a lap size quilt last year for the little girl next door, my friend's daughter. I want to make 3 more for her siblings this year. With their mother being such a help to me, it's a priviledge to make them instead of a chore. I'm passing on the quilting bug! 3. Focus quilt for this year is a 25 block sampler quilt for my wedding anniversary. This year we will be married 10 years. We never received a wedding quilt and I'd love to make one just for us. The blocks are picked, many triangle blocks, YIKES!, but with perseverance I can do it. 4. Twin size quilt for my ill friend. She asked, in lieu of a wheelchair quilt or hospital bed quilt, if I would make her infant on a blanket he can take to college since she knows she won't be able to do it for him. I agreed, but I want to make her a hospice quilt anyway. What are you all going to do? Planning anything new this year? New techniques or blocks you want to try? Finishing UFO's? WIP's? What are your plans? |
well I just started last year so didn't have a list! this year though I do.
For 2010 here's what I want to do. finish quilting 10yo dd's quilt make Lapquilt for 13yodd bed quilts for 8 yo and 5 yo ds' bed quilt for 13yo dd since I hand quilt and I am not fast and these will be the first full size ones I've made I think I'll stop there! If I finish those I'll be happy and then look into another project! |
Sounds like a great list. I hand quilt to, but I won't waste my good stitching on my boys' quilts. They'll be tied as will most of my lap size ones since they are also meant for children.
I would like to experiment in Table Runners this year, since I've never made one. But my bigger projects are all hand done. I'm hoping to have the top to my sampler done by June so I can spend June to December quilting it. |
2010 wow
time flies when u are having fun I plan to finish 3 quilts, a ric rac road, a heart quilt and a 2006 BOM, also starting a log cabin sampler with my guild that we have until Dec of 2010 to finsih, will show them off at the christmas party. those i really want to finish, but i will probably at least start a few more and work on some of my many ufo's Happy New Year everyone |
I have 6 quilts to do for family for Aug and after that, I am working on a jane or two and would like to do the block of the month,
|
Hi, what a great idea.
I am loosing my job of 13 years at the end of Jan 2010 and there is no hope of finding another for quite some time (our county's unemployment rate is 16.3). Anyway I have tons and tons of things to keep me busy. I am very glad that I induldged in purchasing supplies, tools and kits over the last couple of years. I have 8 quilt tops that are ready to quilt, I can load them onto the gracie frame and get them done. I have many kits to do so I know I won't be lacking things to do. I have a huge stash so now is the time to start using it. Have a happy new year! |
I have 7 lapquilts to make before Christmas 2010 all machine quilted
and I have a list of charity quilts I want to complete too, this year :D:D:D |
I have so much.
3 Irr centers to work on. 2 quilt tops ready to hand quilt Joining the Boomerang swap, (really excited about this one) All star sampler about half done angel wall hanging I want to do planning a Spin Star Quilt to do with my cousin Then I get to start something new    |
Not sure what I'll be doing yet.
|
i want to conquer using my tin lizzie
|
I will be plodding along on the king sized quilt I've been hand quilting for a decade or more. It was my first quilt, my "practice" quilt and has served me well as such, but my husband loves it (flaws and all) and wants me to finish it for him. Since he has a long list of serious health problems, I would LOVE to get it finished; it is far from being finished and life keeps getting in the way.
Besides that quilt, I have another waiting to be hand quilted. I am almost finished another huge top, so I want to get that done, pressed, photographed, and stored with the rest of my finished quilt tops. I never worry about my stored completed tops ... I'll get to those when I get to them. And finally, I have embroidered theme quilt blocks that I need to organize and decide how I will use them. I started out with the idea of creating one theme quilt, but the pile of blocks has grown into several theme quilts. |
Start and finish my grandson a Funny Farm quilt from Clothworks fabrics. I have all my fabric, but am scared to start on it.
Learn to applique so I can make my daughter a Sun Bonnet Sue quilt. Start on two quilts for our camper, using the Happy Camper line of fabric from Moda. And start/finish a quilt kit that I bought way back in the summer. It is called Cheese and Crackers. I have all the fabrics I need for these quilts. I just need to get up my courage and start them!! |
I have only a few goals for the new year.
1) finish an anniversary quilt for my parents. It was supposed to be for their 60th, complete with pics of children, grandchildren, great-grand children. Last year they celebrated their 66th. So I need to get it done. 2) start/complete a wedding dress for my daughter. She called me on the 1st to tell us she got engaged, and would I please... 3) start/complete a wedding quilt for daughter/new husband. I think those will keep me very busy, considering the way life has of interrupting daily!  I'll try to post pics when things are done, if I can figure out how to do it myself. Somehow, technology is passing me by... |
My biggest project of the new year is getting my stash organized and my sewing room set up....I cant wait to get that done.
Other then that I have a denim quilt I absolutely hate but is for a friend of my husbands so he is nagging about it...I NEED to get that done. I have two babies on the way in the family this spring that will need quilts!! Complete the swaps I joined. Figure out how to complete an attic window quilt...I have the fabric to get started...not the courage. And as I sort I am going to cut strips to make a scrappy trip around the world quilt for myself!!!! |
We'll have to do the same thing we did last year...the first one to get something tangible finished, has to create a "What's Next for 2010 in Pictures?" and put it in the pictures section.
Everyone that gets their lists, you have to update all year....some people will drop off, others will add on. But if you start and keep going all year, at the end you can see all that you and your friends accomplished. |
I have several projects
1. Red/white/black quilt 2. 30's quilt 3. grape/wine themed quilt 4. Churn dash quilt - Joint project with my mom. She is making one also with different fabric. 5. Quilt for a family member 6. Aprons 7. Tablerunners 8. Finish quilt for my niece 9. some sort of a scrappy quilt, using my stash 10. Print pics of my quilts I have made and make a scrapbook 11. Post some pics here! That is it for now. I am sure I have more plans, but can't think of them! |
I forgot!
4th of July quilt I would love to make a paper pieced quilt. |
well, kiddo's, here we are: January 5th, 2010!
We have had a 2-0 in front of the year for nine years, but somehow, it's now a 20 (twenty)...makes it seem so modern, futuristic. I don't make new years resolutions. Setting myself up to meet goals is just not something that works for me. Having said that, I do ok, with saying what I 'hope' to accomplish this coming year. If I can get a number of my WIP'S finished, and maybe squeeze in a few small things, spontaneously, to break up the process...keep out of a rut, so to speak...I'll be a happy camper. Keeping track like this, all of last year was so helpful. I learned about quilting from this board, but I learned about me 'as a quilter', from this thread Melissa, I think if I ever get my many projects pared down, I will probably be happier working like you described. Maybe having two or three at the most, but at different stages on each one. Not doing the same thing three times in a row. I have reorganized and reorganized my sewing-cave over the years, so many times. Each time learning ways to become more efficient. Currently, almost all my fabrics are on shelves, and most of the WIP's are on the shelves directly in front of my machine. I keep my shelves covered to protect my fabrics, and so I am not looking at all those projects and becoming overwhelmed. Some of those are just 18' X 20" boxes, about 2 1/2" deep, holding the fabrics, uncut, for a particular person, with an idea in mind. So, it would make the most sense to sew the cut ones first. I'm actually looking forward to all this. I can't get them all done this year, but I can sure put a dent in it. I'm never gonna stop quilt-dreaming, or adding to my projects, I just intend to not add as fast, or faster than I can create. Space is on my side. I have almost run out, LOL! So, I feel really good about 2009 and what i learned, shared and got done. I'm hoping that I will feel just as good at the end of this year, and look back and say, "wow! I did it! I broke my old record, and got even more done this year, than I did last year!" No matter, what, I've said it before, I plan to have fun, no matter how many quilts are cranked out. Learning to quilt more, with less stress. I accept that I am never going to quilt at the same rate as a lot of ppl, but as long as we are all happy, who cares? |

ok, in transferring my post from the 2009 thread to the 2010 thread, I ended up with a double post...thank goodness I didn't make a list on there! Would hate to think I had twice as much to do
I am making absolutely no predictions about how much will get done this year, but here's what I hope I will get done SOMEDAY, lol!: >a lap quilt for my 6 grown kids...3 dd's and hubby's >a lap quilt for 4 grandbabies, unless we get more of course:wink: >A christmas quilt for each couple - bed sized OR individual laps >various wall hangings, including some special ones for my living room* >various table runners, maybe some table mats, curtains w valances >various friend giftings...tons of those  >a sheepskin doggie bed for my Bitsy...already have the fabric and the dog, lol! >finish a number of already cut and some started, WIP's >finish some 'gifted to me' projects from my mother >finish a couple dresses started for grbb #2, and when finished will go to her baby sister #4  - - :D oh well...same mother (one dress is a replication of mom's) >queen size eventually for hubby...have the pattern and the husband  Here's some of what I did get done in 2009: >some very small wallhangings >I don't know how many outfits or ind. tops or shorts, sundresses etc. for grandbabies >finished two kitty cats and gave as gifts to two grbabies >a doll quilt that I don't think I ever took a picture of, for grandbby #2 >very simple end table scarves >a wallhanging/organizer for Secret Santa gift >so many projects got either bundled and boxed, or cut out, that I don't want to count them! >so many other quilting related things, such as blocks sent to ppl...a charity quilt started...I probably wrote them down somewhere...I am getting better at keeping track, which is what the 09 thread was about, learning how. For much of the year I did not have a way to either take or post pictures, very well, so it took me a long time to get in the habit. I plan to do much better this year in 2010. I also had to develop more courage. I'm a shy widdle mouse about posting pics  Now that some of my quilting skills have improved, along with my picture taking and posting skills, I am a bit more show-and-tell inclined. I can't make promises, but if I eventually dig up some of these 09 pics, I'll post them. Don't ask me about them, mouse turns turtle when pressured...it's a quirk. I just do if I do, and forget when I don't. I have a very full headspace, so forgetting is something that happens easier than water running downhill  But, the whole point of all this is to have FUN...and mousie knows how to do that. So look out 2010, WE ARE QUILTERS + HERE WE COME!!! |
So my goal for 2010 is as follows: (I'm hoping by posting it here I might actually get it done  )
finish the quilt I started for DS before he was born 2years ago Finsh DD's sampler quilt Use Fall exchange blocks to make a quilt for our cabin bed Use DJ exchange blocks to do a table runner for next christmas Finish hand quilting small quilt for a friend |
I need to quilt one that I made for the "Quilts of Valor".
I'll be help my DW teach a beginers quilting class for our church so I have a D9P top 2/3 finished that will be used as a teaching tool but I will also do a diplicate to give away to a hospice. I'm using the Bargello pattern to make some seat covers for my DW's '62 T-bird. I'll be making a New York Yankee themed quilt for my good friend in Chicago. I also plan on using a jelly roll I bought to make a quilt. |

Right, quiltncrazy.
Without last years thread, I don't think I would have gotten as much done...nor would I think I gained experience at all. Santa Claus brought me a new camera this year. It even came with a little card that said Hot Pink was the ONLY color they had in the workshop. Hee Hee. So now I have to learn how to take and post pics all over again. Someday...I'll have the time to do exchanges and round robins. But I'm happy I have a list for this year, and I'm happy I have so few that I can leave room to be spontaneous. I really want to make a table runner this year, so if it's not already on my list...I want to make one. |
well, i got some more cleaning/reorganizing done in my sewing cave, and my brother brought me a little bit more stuff to put in there. I never say no
I have to get some blocks done this week and a few squishies etc. mailed out very soon. I thought if I wrote it down, it would give me a kick in the rear, so i can say I did it when i come here again. ok, mousie...get on it...!crack! (whip sound ) lol! |
I got the boys quilts' tacked out last weekend. So those are the first 3 completed for the year. Once I figure out how to get the pictures off the new camera and onto the computer, we can start a pics thread.
I've spent all this weekend making the final drawings and getting all the directions prepared so I can start The Anniversary Quilt. I'll be dabbling in paper piecing for the first time. I've done sew and flip on foundation before, but not paper. These blocks won't be backed with muslin, that's for sure. I went and bought some foundation paper and some cream fabric. I decided I didn't like the khaki I had for this project already. Just add it to the stash :) Hope to make the first cut next weekend. |
I started the Pictures sister thread. Finally posted some pics of those D9P's I started last year. Here is the link:

Ok, here's my list.
1 Do Christmas 2010 quilts for 2 nephews and 2 nieces. Right now I have zero ideas so if anyone has some great patterns, I could use some. (13 year old boy, 10 year old girl, 7 year old girl, 3 year old boy) 2. Sunbonnet Sue and Sunbonnet Sam quilts. 3. Finally make a quilt for our bed. Have the pattern but no fabric yet. 4. Get pieces cut for a scrappy postage stamp quilt. 5. Make another quilt for each of my boys. They've outgrown the last ones. |

Now I have four days of appointments to go to. Maybe by next weekend I will make it back to my machine. I miss her  |
Going to give it a good shot. Probably won't get it all done but if I write it down, I'll feel more motivated to tick some things off the list.
|
Well maybe if they are written down I have some accountability to say this is what I want to accomplish.
1. Finish applique quilt I challenged my Mom and sister to do for the San Diego quilt show. 2. Finish my first quilt 3. Keep up with BOM that I purchased each month 4. Make a quilt for my best friend 5. Get my sewing room finished and quilt frame set up. There are many more that I am sure that will come up and that I have purchased fabric for: OBW quilt, Blue and yellow quilt, finish two half square triangle quilt tops, finish at least one UFO. Is that enough? |
I'm been trying yo finish UFO's
1. I had won 26 blocks back in1999 at a retreat I had attended I have them all in a top just need to quilt it. 2. I had a another set of blocks made back in 1998 I have made them into a top now I need to quilt it. 3. I found some blocks as a matter 42 of them I have them all squared up so need to set them into a top thats my project for this week. I should be able to make 2 quilts from them 4. I have 4 small wallhangings that need to be layered and quilted 5. then it will be back to my ufo tubs to see what else I can find. |
I like being ahead of schedule on my sampler. It sure makes me feel less guilty about wanting to do a Soduku and some other smaller projects this year. I definitely want to experiment in some tablerunners this year, and a casserole cover or two.
To the quilter that is looking for patterns for kids' quilts. My boys all love their Disappearing 9 Patches. You can get some very masculine looking ones for your 13yo. Also, sodukus seem kinda popular in this town, they are cute and work together quickly, you just have to make sure you label your blocks well. I think they can be done in any size. The one I'm making will be patriotic for the little girl on my block born July 5th. |
Wow I wonder how much I can get done in a year.
1. I started a sampler quilt to learn different piecing techniques in November of 2009. I would like to have that finished this year. So far I've made 8 of the 15 blocks needed to complete it. 2. Then I want to do a Covered Sewing Box like the one that is described on this board. They look great. 3. I want to do the three geisha panels as window quilts for my craft room. 4. I want to do a coordinated sets of placemats, tablerunner, napkins and a tea cozy for the dinningroom. 5. 3 Ouch pouches for the local cancer center. This is done. 6. 2 Teddybears for the police department to give to children that they need to take care of. I've got one done but I'm not pleased with it. It has puckers. 7. Two Sun Bonnet Sue Blocks for a quilt to be raffled off for the library. That is where our quilting club meets. Since it is already halfway through Febuary I may have to be happy just getting the first listed project done. |
Hi All,

I don't make to do lists. I have ideas and projects to work and think on. Life has a way of derailing the project train, so I enjoy the ride and quilt between the changing scenery.

I haven't gotten a whole lot done so far this year and it is already the middle of March. I am sooo slow! and I have so much other "life" going on. I was hoping to do more than I did last year, and i still may be able to...we shall have to see. I need to make 3 laps and grammy jammies for Christmas as our healthcare went up so much, there won't be much money for buying! Things are so tight, I may not even be able to do Secret Santa this year. That was a ton of fun. One day at a time, an hour or two, or maybe even three, here and there...I'll do what i can. Eventually it will add up. Whatever happened to the good old days, when i could just buckle down, put the mouse nose to grindstone and get 'er done? I absolutely give out, now! exhausting pain, fatigue make brain fog! I'll just keep plugging along, plugging along...happy creating all. hugs from mousie :XD: |
There has been progress. But no way am I going to get all of that done in 2010.

I got the pattern traced to freezer paper and then got the individual pieces of fabric cut out before the power went off and it just got to dark to continue. One block! not even finished! I used to be a rolling ball of energy...now I just roll a ball and I'm out of energy...where's that thread about going back in time? click, click, click (mousie toenails trying to keep going...) |
Let's see....
1. Rag quilt for friend's baby. (Almost finished just have to wash it 10 more times :-D ) 2. Table runner for my table. 3. Egg Money Quilts Sampler (Eleanor Burns) 4. Finish my Beginning Quilting class quilt. The problem with this one is that I caught the bug so bad while taking the class that I have so many other projects I want to do. 5. Start planning out a Mariner's compass quilt. 6. Start a Dear Jane quilt. I plan on doing this one nice and slow so it won't be finished anytime soon. 7. Finish my Pam Bono BOM quilt through my local quilt shop. I have to admit that I'm not too crazy about it so far, but I need to finish what I started. Not too bad... Of course with work, my husband, a 4 year old, and 3 dogs... I guess I can dream... This is the list for 2011, right? :-P |
