Yes, they are more expensive, but at any given time there is a store or website that has them on sale. I rarely pay full price for them.

A real batik has a design made from wax resist. A lot of the blenders are very nice, but they are not really batik.

None! Only small pices picked up at yard sales. That's a newbie.

My stash is greatly diminished right now as I am finishing the blocks for "It's Good to be Square". I have bought many pieces for several quilts specifically, but also see some I just can't resist and have to have a bit of it. The hardest thing for me to find is light colored batiks. Always need more of those. I mainly buy single color variations, but also have quite a few with multiple colors in them. Love them all, never enough.

All of the above fits me too. However, not at full price. I've bought bolts of batik-like fabric from Walmaart, and expensive high quality from my LQS on sale day. It's handy for stand-by stash as well as specifics. In my line-up is a Jewel Box and a summer wave.

oh c'mon, ladies (and gents)... let's see PHOTOs of that batik stash...

I seem to be attracted to teals and purples...

I'm at a little over 30 different ones right now. Collecting for a king scrappy sampler, eventually.

I have been buying batiks since 1974 when they were $4 a yard! Love them and use them like crazy in big appliques.

Both - I buy them because something about the cmbination of colors just 'hits me' and I also buy them for a specific purpose. I am making a wall hanging using mostly neutral and brown batiks for the living room and then I will start a new king size for the master -. I am lucky - my LQS has most batiks from the good houses at $8.95/yd

I love batiks! Usually purchased with no particular project in mind, but they've found their way into a baby quilts, several sets of placemats (mostly given as gifts) and a really, really big batik monster (king-size quilt) that I still need to quilt. Braid pattern with black sashing/stripe between the braid rows and Id buy batiks more except I'm broke!!
