No matter what I try, or how hard I try, my stuff never ever matches up perfectly. makes me seriously question why I keep at this!!!

dewie45 02-21-2011 02:27 AM

Always comparing my work to my sister's. She was an accomplished quilter before Parkinson's got in the way. Because she is about 15 years older, I have been the 'little sister' trying to measure up all my life. Took me a long time to realize she was as hard on herself as anyone else. I just can't seem to get out of old habits.

Mamagoat 02-21-2011 03:07 AM

My flaw! Starting quilts, then try & finding time to finish them, lol.

Deborah12687 02-21-2011 04:00 AM

My flaw is making perfect flaws, I have a perfect seam ripper that rips out those perfect flaws!hehehhe!

quilt3311 02-21-2011 04:04 AM

Getting the top done, the quilt layered and then having it in a pile "forever" before I finally get in the mood to do the machine quilting. Then I quilt for a week and then do the bindings for a week, this is usually the last couple weeks before the annual quilt show.

I agree with that one. Like the old saying, I have visions of grandeur. My mind says I can do all those fantastic quilts, but in reality, I know they would never turn out like they are supposed to. I am a perfectionist and get quite upset when my points aren't perfect and those HST pinwheels?!?!?! Harumph!!!

scaroca 02-21-2011 04:52 AM

my biggest flaw lately is spending more time on the qb than quilting. I am addicted to seeing what everyone else is doing. But if that is a flaw I am loving it.

LoveBug 02-21-2011 05:00 AM

I think my biggest flaw is just thinking I can do everything. Not knowing the word "no" when it comes to quilting projects has filled my studio with fabric and gadgets to last several lifetimes.

Not that I'm complaining... :)

polly13 02-21-2011 05:00 AM

My new year's goal is to FINISH one. I, too, can't wait to see what a new pattern is going to look like, put it up on the wall to admire, then find myself off to see what the next one will look like. If I promised to never start a new project until the old ones are finished, I won't begin another until 2012.

Annaquilts 02-21-2011 05:02 AM

I one time forgot to pin the quilt top before quilting. The sad part was it was a quilt top my DD 14 made for one of her Sunday school teachers. I was finnishing up the quilting just before church and not till I was done did I realize the back was sewn and attached to itself with 2-4 inch folds all over. The top looked wonderful but the back is a real night mare. The lap quilt was for the teacher's birthday and DD was determined not to go without it. I figured I would explain to the teacher and then take it home to fix it. The teacher however did not want to let go and still has it. She says she doesn't care and loves it. It still bothers me and it has been more then several years this happened.

Mine would be Not finishing UFO's , due mostly because there is a flaw in them. I am a professional "unsewer".

Dortha 02-21-2011 05:31 AM

procrastination

DeeBooper 02-21-2011 05:34 AM

My worse flaw is that I don't give myself even more time than I do now to sew! My mom's worse flaw is that she has to show everyone her one little mistake she has made on her quilts. I hate it when she does that because her quilts are really beautiful. She does it with her fabulous baking too.

Do you want to start a club?

rismstress 02-21-2011 05:54 AM

Flaws? There are flaws?? Seriously I think mine is that I'm anal about every seam and will sit and pick them all out and redo them instead of saying it's only a little off.

I don't worry about my points not meeting perfectly. If they are close enough that no one will notice but me I say 'it's a perfect quilt'. However I cannot stitch in the ditch, stipple or have the right color choices for my thread or in coordinating fabric colors. I could tell everyone that I am a perfect seamstress and quilter but who would believe me. All we can do is keep trying and practicing and thereby moving towards perfection. Keep the faith in your skills and abilities as well as the patience that God gave you to persevere. Jeanniebelle

SandraG 02-21-2011 06:35 AM

Flaws? I have a few:
Too many unfinished projects, too much material, patterns, & books, continuing to buy too much material, patterns, & books, on QB too much, always planning but not accomplishing too much, feeling like a beginner quilter after years of quilting, points a little off & puckers in my quilts, and my quilting rooms (2 bedrooms) look like someone threw a grenade in them but I am too lazy to clean them up. Other than those flaws...

LOL me too!!!

grammy17 02-21-2011 06:48 AM

"But you couldn't even notice once it was all quilted and washed.."

I try so hard to get everything lined up and do my best. Then I've seen the couch throws after, the kids drag them on the floor, and the dog lays on them and whatever and they get washed and they look like rags. Then I wonder--who do I do all this for--me or them.

Anyway I've had fun and learned something new on each one.

Mazda 02-21-2011 06:55 AM

Well, I am on my first quilt top, and I can tell I want my corners to match up! After reading this thread though, I am glad I have order the 1/4 foot!

lillybeck 02-21-2011 06:55 AM

I have read every post here and am guilty of many of these flaws ( not the ones of perfection) but I think my biggest is not believing in myself enough and getting in a hurry and getting frustrated.

I am the Queen of Procrastination, like to start things but don't get many finished.

foxxigrani 02-21-2011 07:22 AM

I don't think there is enough space or time to write all my flaws. I think all of you are funny but add up everything you think is a flaw, throw it in a pot and its all mine. hee eeeheeheh

gmloves2quilt 02-21-2011 07:55 AM

I would agree with many of these flaws,[but not perfection yet anyway].LOL I really got to work on confidence when i make a quilt.

grammy17 02-21-2011 08:20 AM

Best thing about this is I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. And we are all pretty good--we tried.

kittykatz2001 02-21-2011 08:20 AM

Not finishing my projects. I have 6 quilts waiting to be quilted and I have a LAQ. Go figure. Guess I just like making tops.

linda701 02-21-2011 08:32 AM

My flaw is I use my seam ripper to much because I loose focus of what i'm doing. Someone is always bothering me.

pieces 02-21-2011 09:11 AM

Keeping my sewing room too neat. Everything in its place and a place for everything. :D

Way too funny .. about the sixth sense... but Agree completely I really hate puckers . Remember the movie Mommy Dearest ... and "NO WIRE HANGERS" well I Am the same way "NO PUCKERS"!

I have the same problem Sing. I live in Pucker Purgatory. Every quilt I make has at least one pucker on the back. That's the next thing I resolve to conquer.

katieranch 02-21-2011 09:20 AM

Everyone's posts made me laugh...I don't think any of us have flaws!

tntgranny 02-21-2011 10:16 AM

Biggest flaw? Always open the "Links and Resources" section and see sales that I just can't pass up. Keep having to explain all the packages that keep showing up in the mail. My husband had hip surgery in November and is still home recuperating. Used to be that I got the mail before he got home from work and I could put away all the stuff before he got home. Kind of like I Love Lucy - "U got some splainin to do."

JoyMar 02-21-2011 10:25 AM
