I usually make a shopping bag for the quilts I give away. Folks seem to love them since plastic bags are banned here. It doesn't matter if they match. Both gifts get used.

Lately I've been making a matching/coordinating tote to go with the quilt. It can be used as storage or for whatever purpose the recipient desires.

I usually make a pillowcase for a child or a simple tote for an adult.

Ditto pillowcase and put the quilt inside one of the cases and tie the top with matching fabric strip.

I made a play mat for my granddaughter when she was small. It had Ripstop on the back so she could be put on the mat at the park. I made a little bag and when the mat was rolled up and put into it, it looked like a mini sleeping bag. DD loved it and her friends thought it a great idea.

I have never done that but I think it is a great idea.

I usually make a pillow case storage bag for my quilts. On the back I put a label with the washing instructions and fabric content. On the front I put the name of the quilt and the designer, date, and where it was made.

I made a Quilt of Valor and you have to make a "presentation case" to go with it. I made a pillow case using the same fabrics that were in the quilt and it worked out great!

I like to make the pillow case or cases to use or store the quilt in. I also use it as an opportunity to include the care instructions because many gift receivers have no idea about how to properly care for a quilt. Aside from letting them know that it is best not to store quilts in plastic it also shows them how to store the quilt and avoid light fade marks. That is a hard concept to convey since all commercial bedding products come in see-through zippered plastic bags.

I have started making "bags" for my quilt gifts as well. On the outside, I use either left over fabric or a coordinating fabric - but where I differ from most - I use either a taffeta lining or use an inexpensive rayon lining. This allows for the quilt to easily slide into the bag .
