My local shops don't have the selection I want, are way too expensive, and seem a bit too snooty for me. If all I need is a quick spool of thread and am in the LQS neighborhood, I don't need to be looked at like I just came from the wrong side of the tracks. |
I buy Davids fabrics at Wal mart and I shop Joann's, We also have a store called Good's in Pennsylvania and I got reasonable Kona by Hoffman there. Also picked up Moda another time. The quilt shops are just too expensive at about $10 a yard and up. David's fabric at Wal Mart is under $5.
|
I have several quilt shops all within 25-30 miles, so I can take my pick. My local WalMart never lost it's fabric and there are 2 JoAnn's within 20 miles of my house. Is there any wonder why my stash is getting out of hand? I live in the country BTW. Lucky, huh.
Sue you have to have something to do in case you get snowed in. :) |
I shop at Joann's, Marden's, thrift stores, consignment shops and yard sales. I like to see and feel the fabric before I make my purchases.
|
I am very lucky to live in an area that has lots of quilt stores. We also have JoAnns and Hancock fabrics. Bend is the hub for all of us who live east of the Cascade Mountains so we have more than our share of good stores.
But I also shop online. My favorite is Piecework Fabrics. They have great sales regularly where the fabric is $5.95 per yard. |
Lots of places but my favorites included my favorite Ebay fabric seller, and some other online sites that the others have mentioned. Love to go to quilt shops too. Yesterday my
DH and I were in Lancaster Oh for the day and I found a nice little shop- she had tons of Moda- my downfall!! :D I fabric shop whenever I travel- no matter where! :) |
I am limited too! So when I am out in the "Big City", I take advantage of it!!!

If you spend over $35.00, which is easy to do, they have free shipping. |
I shop on line a lot..I love a store called "The Stitiching Post" it's in Washington,Indiana..always reasonable and ships in 2 days !!
|
Where do I shop???? Let's see. Anywhere and everywhere they have fabric...ebay, online stores, lqs's, etc. And in my own stash. LOL.
|
We were recently in a great shop in Greensburg, In called "Tree City Stitches". Good fabrics, resasonable prices, and great service.

I feel your pain. MS is woefully devoid of good fabric shops. I was going to suggest the Bernina store in Jackson but looks like you're a lot closer to Memphis than that. If you get a chance to be down this way stop in though, they have just expanded and have a lot more fabric than before.

Surely I'm not the only one. So, heres my question to you. Where do you shop? |
Since Wal-Mart removed the fabric department from our store, we have to drive about 45 miles (one-way) to purchase fabric. There's a nice quilt store in one direction, and a Hobby-Lobby, Hancock's and small quilt store in the other direction. The small shop carries mostly sewing machines, with a limited selection of fabric.
Other than that, it's a 2-hour or slightly longer (one-way) trip to shops in Dallas and one in Paris. |
I go to the Paducah show each year and tend to buy a lot at the show and at the huge Hancock's there.Other than that you have to resort to online shopping. I'm still a little nervous when I do that because the color I see on the monitor is not always the color I receive in the mail. Oh well, I call that stash building.

If I need something fast, it's JoAnn's armed with coupons as it's ten minutes from home. Otherwise, I shop online or through e-bay where I've had wonderful luck & very low prices. Just watch their performance ratings before you buy.

Yikes it dropped like a ton of pins! My stash is still all there, no 4% missing!
|
I shop at Hancock Fabrics, Hobby Lobby, Online, & Wal-mart. Unfortunely, NO JO-ANNs here.
have a blessed day. debra |

I buy primarily from my LQS. They offer only high-quality quilting fabric. I pay more, but I don't mind since I am spending a lot of time and energy making a quilt.
|
I have bought lots of fabric off e-bay, mainly FQ bundles and Jelly Rolls. Also at the misourri star quilt company (love their daily deal). I like connecting threads for thread and fabric, and for patterns I like cozy quilt.com and jojos quilt shop. Also like fat quarter shop.com, but they are a little pricey.

zandsfabrics.com
burkfabrics.com marshalldrygoods.com theoldcountrystore.com |
I do have a Joann Fabrics near me and buy when fabric is on sale but even their sale prices are getting expensive.
I like to look at the Connecting Threads fabrics, in their clearance section. Not all of their fabrics appeal to me but some do, especially the batiks and the prices can't be beat. Even if the fabrics don't appeal to me for the top of a quilt, I'll use any of the clearance fabrics for quilt backs. |
We are also very fortunate in our area. I have five local quilt shops, Wal-mart, Joann's, and Hobby Lobby all within 30 minutes of home, so I shop at all of them!
|
Fabric Depot!
(They do have an on line site for you!  ) |
I go to the quilting shops sometime but they are expensive. I also go to Joanne's, Wal Mart near me that has it the closest one still hasn't gotten it in. I also order on line. Sometimes I like to go and feel it and actually see it for the color. Sometimes I think it is cheaper online. Sue

The closest quilt shop to me is about 25 miles, so most of the time I shop on line. Saves money on gas too.
|
We have several quilt shops in our area but you have to drive a ways
|
I have a number of LQS available to me... 2 are my favorites... one favors novelty prints and the other batiks..
maybe a little to convienent... to easy to stop.. whichever direction I go...LOL |
I usually shop at JoAnns armed with coupons or buy fabrics on sale, our Walmarts are re-stocking the fabric dept. now and I buy there also. We have a new Hobby Lobby and I have been there once. I find the LQS too expensive most of the time.
|
mostly on line
|
I have a LQS a couple of blocks from me but they have a tendency to be a bit pricey. I do buy from them but not too much. There is also another LQS about 45 min. away that I go to occasionally. I do most of my shopping in Lancaster as it's only about 1 1/2 hours from me. I typically only buy for projects and can always find something there. Plus I usually do some business out there as well so I can kill a couple of birds with one stone. I'm not much of an online shopper unless I've checked out the exact fabric in person first. I like to feel the fabric and see the actual color before I purchase.
|
on-line
|
I mostly shop on-line There are so many nice shops with very good prices
|
I mostly shop online. Fabric.com, Connection Threads, and Joann's but only when there is a good sale. Fabric prices are going sky high so I only shop sales. I also use discarded clothing, shirts, jeans, etc. My main source is Fabric.com
|
I am also very limited, but when I go into Myrtle Beach, there are 4 wonderful QS's! When I wander up to NC or over to Florence, there are JoAnn's stores, but I find that I no longer buy quilting fabric there. Instead, I buy my fusible interfacing and fleece because they are cheaper. I try to keep a running list of what I need for when I can FINALLY go shopping - although I have no problem shopping on line when necessary.
|
I order a lot online. I do have a JoAnns etc. nearby but I can't always find what I,m looking for so I sit with my coffee at the puter and shop.
