I'm very limited to fabric where I live.
Surely I'm not the only one. So, heres my question to you. Where do you shop? |
I am very lucky, I live in an area that has many small and large quilt shops. I do shop for the brand names, Benartex, Wilmington, Marcus Bros. etc on line, various places.
I'm very limited as well. I either drive an hour to my favorite quilt store, or most often order from Fabric.com
If you spend over $35.00, which is easy to do, they have free shipping. |
i have been doing a lot of shopping here lately. Prices are good, and you know the sellers are reputable (they are quilters). I have been trying to stop my quilt shop shopping until I use some more of my fabric.
My LQS doesn't especially cater to my tastes in fabric, so I do a lot of shopping on line. I've had really good luck with Thousands of Bolts and Quilter's Paradise, but I've also located fabric through the search engine of http://www.quiltshops.com/ and have been perfectly happy with the shops I ordered from.
I shop @ JoeAnn's, Wal-Mart, Touch of thread, Hobby Lobby.
That's enough |
I buy fabric at online sales. One Walmart close by sells David's Fabrics and I buy a lot of that. The LQS that is about and hour away has clearance sales twice a year and I stock up on the basics there. I buy my thread and books online.
We have a store ,called Pauls Discount. They sell sporting goods and fabric. They have an amazing fabric dept.I spend alot of money there.I have found several online stores with good prices .
There is a discount store near me that sells fabric from $1.99-$4.99. Good quality, well known designers, maybe just not their latest lines. I can always find what I want.
The place is Mardens and all the Maine folks here know about it. |
Thrift shops are always a good source. There is a ton of quilters fabric at my Salvation Army I go to all the time. If you cant find fabric, using the clothes to cut up is always a great idea too, I do it all the time=)
i love the Amish quilt shops which are about 30 miles away. We take a group of women and make a day of it. the prices are low, the selection is fantastic and the fabric is good quality.

Our local quilt shop closed recently so now I shop on line and make a trek to Mary Jo's every so often.
I have several quilt shops all within 25-30 miles, so I can take my pick. My local WalMart never lost it's fabric and there are 2 JoAnn's within 20 miles of my house. Is there any wonder why my stash is getting out of hand? I live in the country BTW. Lucky, huh.

Other than Walmart, I order on line.
My area has two Joanns and four quilt shops not to far away.
One shop, 35th Ave Sew and Vac, just moved into a new store that is as big as a supermarket. Mulqueens has all their fabric for $6.99 a yard regular price and has dollar off sales. But I still buy online alot. You get such good sales online. There are also four Walmarts but the closest one only has precuts but they are getting fabric back. A couple of the others still have fabric. |
I hunt around.. internet, shops, thrift shops, second hand, rummage sales.. anywhere I can get a fabric fix, but has to be a deal..
I do most of my shopping online. If I am heading to an area with a lot of shops I go armed with coupons  and a list :D:D:D
Everywhere.
There are six or eight great quilt shops within easy driving distance, but I'm so happy with the Civil War specialist one that that's the only one I go to, locally. The employees are all friendly, there are constantly new fabrics and products in the shop, but they keep plenty of "old standards," too. They have interesting BOM and classes - and on Mondays, if you buy ten or more FQ's, you get 30% off all of them! LOVE that store! I love fabric.com, judipat47 & franks11 on eBay, connectingthreads.com, quiltinaday.com, whittlesfabrics.com, betterquiltkits.com - all wonderful! :) |

LQS, thrift stores, on line, classifieds here on the QB, sometimes ebay, swap with friends, sometimes Walmart, Hancocks (they are the closest other then LQS).
I had shopped at Walmart, but since the condensing it's not the same or worth me traveling 100 miles one way. Believe it or not our local drug, guns, appliances store carries some fabric. WOW right in our town, our town must be growing. I purchase from fabric.com, some ebay. Visit Joann or Hancock when traveling to see kids and grandbabies
Patchwork Pig, Quilters Quarters, Heartfelt, Raindow's End, Hancock Fabrics, Bernina quilt shop, Quilts on Plum Lane, Cotton Patch. Oh maybe thats too many but they are my regular places. I drove to Blue Ridge Georgia once cause I heard there was a nice shop there. Oh yes and one year to Padauch, KY to go to Hancocks.
Quilt Coral in Hill City, SD. Online and they ship
Online mostly because our local quilt shop does not carry civil war or 1930 reproduction prints any more. Walmart for kids and patriotic.

I am with Patty Patches, we have Paul's Discount who recently upgraded their fabric department -- very impressive now. But, we also have King's Department Store -- very impressive prices ($2.00 to $4.75 a yard). For rulers and mats, I order from JoAnns with coupons. Recently, I have purchased lots of fabric offered by members here. Books come from Amazon or QB members. We also trade among guild members. The less gas I use for shopping, the more shopping I can do. |
Thrift shops, Goodwill and on line. Keep an eye out on the Classifieds on this board. Great people to buy from at great prices.
LQS, online, joanns mostly
I shop everywhere...I shop here on the board, at Sulphur Grove Quilt Shop (local store), Joann's, Hobby Lobby, we have a very large thrift store & sometimes I might find fabric there and once or twice I've been at a crafter/quilter's garage sale.
Ditto Annie, I love Mardens!
I shop here or at the quilt stores or on line. All are fun places to get fabric and other things.
There is several quilt shops within a half hout drive but there is also a huge Textile Mill with 5,000 bolts. The prices are not cheaper or anything but the selection is amazing. I love to go and touch everything and imagine what I could make. I am going to Amish country in September and I cant wait to see what they have to offer. I do buy a lot of kids prints at Wal-Mart because my grandkids are allunder 6( four of them) and they love Princess and Toy Story, Cars and Hello Kitty and they have all that and more.
Closest fabric shop is Joann's, 20 min. away, have 3 LQS's that each are about 1 hour or more away, and best of all aren my annual or semi annual trips to Lancaster PA area where the selection is great and so are the prices.
Thought I would be checking out Mardens last week but DH wasn't feeling good so we didn't go, still have it on my Have To Stop list. May in Jersey |
Wal Mart, Hobby Lobby, Hancocks, LQS and Jo-anns when I get to Shreveport.
I was in Maine recently and planned to stop at Mardens but my Mother-in-law wasnt up to it. I could have screamed.
I shop at Keepsake Quilting in Center Harbor NH, Quilted Threads in Henniker NH and at Stitch at the Old Mill in Whitefield NH whenever I can, otherwise I shop online.
I shop at JoAnn's and our one and only Walmart that carries fabric.
JoAnn's, Hobby Lobby, and online.
I've quit the JoAnn's, Hobby Lobby and Hancock's that are near and got the LQS or buy on line if it is something that I want
