This may sound like a really dumb quesion. Where do you get your white fabric? I noticed that my stash lacks white. I would like to get some very nice plain and tonal white. I would be ordering it online. I don't want a thin fabric but not too thick either. No transportation so online it is. Any help would be appricated. Thanks in advance. BrendaK

I've been thinking about trying a cathedral window and want to use white also. It has to be something that when ironed will stay in that shape. Any suggestions for that would be great. Thanks

Murphy 09-28-2011 02:27 PM

I get mine at my local quilt shop.

Carron 09-28-2011 02:27 PM

Have you checked out Joann's? I get my white fabric from there. Rather good selection the last time I was there.

Have you thought of fusible interfacing.

Did you see the cathedral window someone posted recently made with black fabric? It was fabulous

Lacelady 09-28-2011 02:38 PM

Kona cotton does some nice white, I get mine from Hancocks of Paducah. There is a bright white, and a snow (a little bit creamier), and a prepared for dying white.

TexasSunshine 09-28-2011 02:52 PM

Kona has a white. I use Kona snow, it is not pure white, but is not so stark white.

Lori S 09-28-2011 02:54 PM

I buy 100 percent Cotton bleached perm press muslin. I use quite a bit so I buy it by the bolt.

kathy 09-28-2011 02:56 PM

connecting threads has a very nice weight plain white, i bought some to try it for dyeing (wasn't good for that tho) but for using as is it's very nice

Me too and it is a line from Moda.

hazeljane 09-28-2011 03:37 PM

I get good quality white cotton sheets. Between 250-300 thread count. I buy them at Ross, or TJMaxx or Marshalls. It doesn't matter to me if they are irregular, since I am using them for fabric. But I find them hard to beat for price and sturdiness.

One caveat- beware of cotton sateen! It's nice, but not easy to use.

vicki75 09-28-2011 03:44 PM

Moda Bella Solids are very nice and they have white. I use it all the time.

Challys 09-28-2011 04:00 PM

Try 5bucksayards.com

they had some nice white on whites recently

Irene Frohreich 09-28-2011 04:04 PM

I didn't understand the fusible interfacing comment? Explain that to me please!

When I get a 50% off coupon from JoAnns, I buy 10 yards of the Kona cotton in white. Love it! Yes, JoAnns does carry a few of the Kona solids!

Wanabee Quiltin 09-29-2011 03:44 AM

I bought some white charm squares from Keepsake Quilting and was very pleased with them. You can view and order online. They even include patterns with some of the orders. I do know they sell 10 inch pieces in a group called Ice and Ivory that is very nice. I do not know about yardage. I love Hobby Lobby whites myself.

fairydawn 09-29-2011 03:55 AM

For a plain white I like Moda Bella solid. It's great and you should be able to get it online any where. Check out fabric.com, over the rainbow, somewhere sewing, etc.

For me, Kona Snow is the VERY BEST white on the market.
I get it from fabric.com, usually purchased thru Amazon. That way I get free shipping from fabric.com + purchase points from Amazon.

I often purchase from Yoder - excellent service and really good prices.

the old one 09-29-2011 04:50 AM

My white fabric is purchased by the bolt from Yoder's store in Shipshewana, Indiana, I order by phone, last time I told the sales person to send the kind their local quilters preferred, it is very nice. They will send samples, for the black, I do ask for samples. The prices are reasonable, and service is prompt. If, and that's a big if, we get to Kalona, Iowa, I purchase it at my favorite store, am not sure if they do mail orders or not. piecefully, the old one

I have a preference for Moda White as well. It has a wonderful hand and is not see thorough. That said I must say I just watched a PBS show of Fons & Fons last night and they made the cathedral window, MaryAnn Fons said that the pattern is historicaly made with unbleached muslin because it ironed best however they chose to use colored background fabric. It was an interesting show, went upstairs and made two squares just before bed to give it a try.

KR 09-29-2011 05:07 AM

I bought a really nice solid white from Missouri Star Quilt Co....nice weight, not paper thin like some. It was one of their Daily Deals, but I suspect they carry it all the time. Hope that helps?

PS: I just checked their website and it's Bella Solids by Moda.....$5.95/yd.

luvstoquilt 09-29-2011 05:22 AM

I have gotten some nice "white on white" at Joann's and at Hobby Lobby lately..great weight and washes well...100% cotton.

AprilG 09-29-2011 05:24 AM

You can buy from Joann's on line. Same great fabric. Also some WalMart stores. Also try Hobby Lobby on-line.

lovelyl 09-29-2011 05:34 AM

I just purchased white from Connecting Threads for under $5/YD. It is part of the Quilter's Candy line. I am pleased with the look and weight of it - working on a pin wheel baby quilt with it. It does tend to ravel a bit, but looks great, irons great, easy to work with. I am thinking about adding several of their solids to my stash.

PolkaBabe 09-29-2011 05:35 AM

Hancock fabrics.

I like Kona also. Bought a whole bolt when I had a 50% off coupon from JoAnns. You could probably buy it on line at JoAnns or Hancocks.

GlitzyMe 09-29-2011 07:17 AM

I like Kona Cotton. It's a good weight. Hancock's and JoAnn's carry it and I think Hancock's of Paducah.

Jersey Gal 09-29-2011 07:28 AM

I've ordered for "Judipat47" on Ebay. I''ve never been disappointed in the quality of her fabric, and she mails promptly.
Here's a link to a 108 inch wide fabric of hers. Of course, she
has all sorts of widths to choose from.
(You many have to cut and paste).

This is a fantastic website, I am not giving a shameless recommendation... no connection to them, but their service is outstanding, the selection of fabrics is incomparable.... Luanne Ruben is a world renowned quilter and this is her site, so be sure to sign up for her newsletter, I love to read her thoughts as she is a fabric artist extraordinaire.

I have a friend who lives in the country and she orders on line from Marshalls Dry Goods. They have really good fabric!

This is a very beneficial topic. I have found that a lot of whites are so thin. Thanks for all the helpful tips.

lynnsim 09-29-2011 01:00 PM

I love Kona cottons and especially the Snow. However, I've used white on white from Hobby Lobby and it's not too thin.
