There is a word for this: Proquiltinating: working on quilts when you should be doing laundry, dishes, etc. :D I didn't think it up myself. I found it here: http://frantastic-stitchwitchery.blogspot.com/

My sewing room is always cleaned up after I complete a project...sometimes even in the middle of a project if the chaos is affecting my creativity. But the rest of the house, not so much. Many times I'm so "in the zone" in my happy place which is my sewing room that I forget to make supper. My husband often gets home between 6 and 7pm and asks "what's for supper?" and I say "What??? What time is it anyway?" Yes, I have a clock and my cellphone in there but I rarely look at them. I try to plan a family get together or a girlfriend cocktail party at my house at least once/mo. Then I clean like a whirlwind. I had a cocktail party yesterday evening so my house is really clean right now, appetizers leftover in fridge and hubby out of town until Saturday. I'm in heaven!

LOL I do the same except minus kid toys-dog toys are all over.. I try to make it a habit that if I am going to quilt/sew; before I do so ...House is clean, laundry is done, and the dishwasher is empty (so no dishes are in the sink!LOL), and if anyone comes over uninvited well guess what ? It is what it is-DH usually picks up after himself (notice I said usually !LOL). I have meals in the freezer for drop in guests if its around a meal time ..
I also will take a day in between whatever I am doing and clean then start another project.

This has been a fun and interesting thread. We're retired too and Hubby does most of the kitchen work and makes the bed. We each wash our own clothes and clean our own bathrooms so the house stays "clean enough". It doesn't sparkle. We live far from town, so people don't "drop in". We feel comfortable here and we have plenty of time for hobbies. I get the feeling from reading the other comments that everyone does what's necessary to make time for quilting and that's the main thing. Happy quilting to all of you. I love seeing your quilts.

I did laundry, dinner in crock pot, dishes done. The rest of the house is alright
for now, I see some dusting is in order but I just don't have the time right now. My house is my castle and it is clean enough for me.

Between Work and the Pile of Laundry and the bags of clothes from my MIL who passed away ,,, I have only time for little projects... trying to get her Clothes sorted and washed and donated to local Church... I do see my sewing machine off in the distant sunset... :o Have a Great Day Quilting Ladies....

If the kitchen sink is clean - I'm good to go quilt

I can go with this philosophy...... and I am also recovering from knee replacements, both ...who says I am recovered after only 8 years on the first and 2 yrs on second? quilting is way more rewarding than a clean house!:D:D:D
