Hi,
What is a ruler just for paper piecing? Where do you get one? What does it look like. Thank you for any information you can give me. Thank you. Lois |
I believe you are referring to a "quarter inch" or "an eight inch" ruler - any quilt store has them - also Joanne's. They help you cut a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

I just got in the end of this thread, so maybe this has been posted already--use a pressing cloth when pressing paper pieced items because you don't want that ink on your iron or ironing board. as you piece, use you nail to gently "iron" the seam. better than a hot iron & you get no folds. do each seam you sew. cut your pieces generously, it's much easier to piece & you don't spend so much time lining stuff up. Judy Niemier website has great stuff for PP.

I press my PP on an old paper sack with the ink side down.

My avatar was my first PP experience. I used vellum paper in my xerox machine as there were so many pieces. Because you sew six pieces to make one pinwheel, I found it was easier to remove the paper, then sew. But you do have to be careful with the bias edges. I would use fabric finish before I removed the paper to give it a good semi-stiff quality. Starch would probably have been better.
I even had to PP all of the black parts so it is consistent throughout. It probably took me a year and a half because I had to keep putting it away to work on other things. But I loved it and will do it again. |
I also started find links and posting on this thread for all of us to enjoy!

Absolutely beautiful! Hope that one of these days mine will be so great.

This is something I really want to learn. I'm determined not to start a new project while one is in progress so it will have to wait for now. But, when I did peek into it on some sites I got confused. Anyone want to recommend some sites or tutorials or even better cd's? I will have to begin to beg for material now, since DH thinks hobbies are a waste of money! Never will understand that man....guess I need a job...lol!
