I learn so much from spending time looking over postings. I think I would learn even more from works in progress and then seeing the finished project. Please post more WIP

first steps from the piles of strips: sew the strip sets... I started with 3

then cut the triangles and make the squares, I have cut the first 2 strip sets so that gives me 4 squares, 2 from each strip set.

Would you show a photo of how you cut the triangles? I am not getting a visual and I would love to set your tutorial in my
mind so I remember to do it that way. The blocks are super.

I agree. :) I love tutorial type things.

I'm not really doing a tutorial here, just a WIP, but I will show the cut strips when I do the next one. Always happy to help. Hugs and smiles!!

Have you seen this one? http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-89877-3.htm#2254410
Busy Bee is making a One Block Wonder. Her fabric is horses. If you copy/paste her photos to your desktop so you can enlarge them you will see so much detail. Maybe she will post close ups of each block for us later. One of her blocks has the horses standing in a circle as if they are around a campfire.
Good job on the wind mills, Joan..

Thank you:)

Ok, here is how I cut the strips, the ruler I used, another ruler that is good for smaller blocks and the 2 blocks I got from the 3rd strip. These blocks are not in final position, I just threw them together for a quick photo.

square 2 from 3rd strip

cut, alternating from each side of the strip

I used the 12" square but you can also use the triangle ruler

square 1 from 3rd strip

the end pieces are for scrap, the triangles from one side of the strip go together to make one block

Here are photos of the tube squares for my DGS's quilt. The green/blue squares I showed before will go between the stars, maybe. LOL. I want the quilt to be mostly orange so that might be too much other colors. I'll just have to play with it and see.

tube squares half strips half black

I have a few work in progress photos of my quilt before it was quilted and after it was quilted. Also I am working on a pinwheel quilt and have made several mistakes :) They are still pretty though:) Live and Learn:)

My first Nine Patch before getting it quilted.

Quilted done by Dovie.

My quilt after it was quilted by Dovie.

Dovie did a great job quilting it . I still have to do the binding and then I will show the finished quilt.

This is my new Gypsy Gripper that my sister Dorothy sent to me last wk. I love it!

After I finished doing 13 Pinwheels, when I looked I had these two funny ones. I still think they are pretty.

The one on the left is wrong..... I have 9 of them!

I have enough of these to make a small quilt.

Dorothy sent me this Lip Ruler too! I love the way it catchs on my cutting mat.

I have been playing with Jelly Rolls all morning! Here is what I have done and the link that showed me how to do it:)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOWSp0mTTqE

They turned out to be good size blocks:)

I use my June Taylor ruler to shape and size the block. Because I don't always have the same size or shape block. I do this so when I get ready to sew it doesn't look odd....

Yes...more pics...Sometimes i just look at the pic...they are so inspiring...I love pic of sewing rooms also. We always need new ideas :D :D

morelcabin 01-29-2011 03:24 PM

We need to actually have a "work in progress" category on here...and we need to also be able to edit it so that when we update our thread with pictures we can say it in the heading. That way everything stays all together on one thread and you don't lose track of the project you are watching.

dkabasketlady 01-29-2011 05:38 PM

I usually don't take pics of my projects until I'm done and rarely ever post any on here! I like to look at everyone elses projects and make comments.

sew 'em together

cut 'em apart and iron 'em

do it all again

make some blocks and squares

make some more blocks and squares... be sure you are having fun!!!

hmmm I think you are right, how would we go about this? Perhaps you would want to talk to Patricia? or approach admin to ask?

pollyjvan9 01-31-2011 09:54 AM

Yes, I enjoy seeing WIPs.

I want to show everyone where I got the pictures of two of the quilts I posted. I need to start taking notes of who they belong to so I can show them the respect they deserve. Those two quilts belong to Eddie and here are his links.

I like your idea. Your colors are very pretty. How large/size do you cut your strips? What size square will you use.?
Thank you for any information on this. Lois
