I love to paper piece, but I absolutely couldn't do it without the add-a-quarter ruler!

Joann's sells her books and the DVD as well. I believe the DVD is $19.99 and if you use a coupon you could get it for almost half off. Also, definitely get the add a quarter ruler it will make the process even easier therefore making it more enjoyable.

Have fun. Carol Doak is a great teacher. Once I learned to paper piece, I really enjoy it.

You can also find the books and dvd on ebay, with no shipping. I will let you know if the brand new dvd I ordered off of ebay from the uk for $5 no shipping is the same. I could not resist, should be here in a day or two.

Her books are the best and the easiest to follow. So little wasted fabric. Every pre-cut piece fits. Love it, love it :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup:

I have a quilt almost finished that I got the pattern from her web-site. I love the pattern and its not to difficult since I am a beginner pper. I would love to get one of her books, but Joanns here doesn't carry them. So will have to look elsewhere. You will love it or as someone said hate it. The first time I tried pping, I hated it but a friend kept saying I will show you I will show you she did and I love it, its such a easy way to get perfect points once you get the hang of it. Paper piecing is the only way to go if you want sharp points. I also like the fact that all I have to do is cut strips of fabric the width I need for each section, instead of cutting exact shapes. You cut the extra off the strip, after you press the new piece you just sewed on. I do press each piece w/ an iron instead of finger pressing.

You can't go wrong with Carol's books. The 9 patch stars has the best tutorial of them all as far as I'm concerned. She also has a yahoo group where you can ask questions, participate in block swaps and lotteries. She also posts free patterns you won't find anywhere else. My advice is to choose a block with only a few pieces to start with, then go for blocks that have more pieces per section.
