I mitre if it fits in with the pattern. I do like to do corner stones in the borders instead of a mitre.

I think the quilt pattern, border fabrics determine weather you miter or not. the place where I think you should always miter is if you are piecing the border in order to get the length you need. hardly shows with a miter--sticks out like a sore thumb if you straight seam the join.

This is a close up of the borders on a wall hanging I'm making. The border seams show up better on something unquilted in pictures. These borders are not mitered. They're sewn with straight seams.

I've mitered only a few borders & it was because of the fabric pattern. Now if that little bit of border fabric was the only 'waste' in my life, I'd be doing good. :-)

Thats what i do. If I have a border fabric that is a stripe or the like, i will miter it because I think that it looks funny if it's not mitered. Otherwise-no way!
