Have never had that happen to a sewing machine but it did happen to a vacuum cleaner, as my motor burnt up and this may be what has happened to your machine. If the price of fixing it is high, think about buying a new sewing machine.

So glad to hear that you got her back quickly and can continue your projects for that important day. It sounded much worse so it is especially good news! :)

I feel your pain. I sewed my designer 1 to its death and now I have a used viking diamond. I'm just glad you were there when it went, whew!
