Hmmm......this led me to thinking....the overwhelming majority of placemats are rectangle while the overwhelming majority of plates are round. My kitchen plates are square. Coasters tend to be round and glasses are round but I make square coasters. But hot mats are usually oval? All the mug mats I've made have been rectangle but they could be anything my hands decide. Fun thread.
