I got a job at my local quilt shop!!! I was in there yesterday spending my husband's hard earned money  and the owner asked me if I wanted to come in and work one day a week. She pays in fabric---so every Wednesday I will be earning about 6 1/2 yards of fabric!! Is this fun, or what? Both of my daughters are excited because they know I cannot use 26 yards of fabric a month-so I will be sharing with them too.

The owner also told me that she would like for me to make shop samples sometimes. She will give me the fabric and the pattern, I will make the top, she will supply the batting and backing, send it out to be quilted, and when she is finished using it in the shop as a sample--I get to have it!! Isn't that a sweet deal????

I am really excited---one day a week for all that fabric. What more could a girl ask for?

Izy 05-23-2009 03:24 PM

Oh Marcia, what a dream come true!! You must show us what you choose each week... :D

omak 05-23-2009 03:49 PM

Good job is a bit redundant, eh? LOL
I am glad for you, and you will grow so much in learning different techniques. And, helping family with their stash too!
Good job ... that is all I can think!

Holy cow, Marcia. You hit pay dirt! How fun that will be. You'll have to let us all know what you learn from working there too. I can hardly wait to see the fabrics you choose and then the quilts you make. You are going to be one busy lady.

MollieSue 05-23-2009 05:03 PM

Congratulations Marcia!!!!!!! Dream job for sure!!!!!!! :D :D :D

Marcia 05-23-2009 05:35 PM

Thanks everyone---I am really excited about it, too!!! I don't start until a week from Wednesday because this week I am keeping one of my granddaughters while my daughter and son in law are out of town.

The shop is small, but really nice and the woman who owns it is really great. Her daughter and granddaughter work there too--a real family affair. I always have a great time when I go in there-they are all so much fun.

Mousie 05-23-2009 05:41 PM

wow, it will be raining fabric...woo hoo...that's the kind of rain i want to dance around in
P.S. I could never do it...I wouldn't be able to make up my mind!

You are one lucky lady. I guess we are all envious of your new job.

sewsewquilter 05-23-2009 05:54 PM

I hope she lets me pick fabric each week, instead of waiting, like....a whole month!! That would be horrible!!

I think I will be able to show pics of what I get----I will be drooling too!!

I worked in a quilt shop once before (about 6 years ago, when we lived in VA). I LOST money on that deal---every time I got "paid" I owed her money for all the fabric I wanted!! I hope this works out better! It may not be the "ideal job"

Cathy-I know that the owner brings her featherweight to work and sews when things are slow--I bet if I am making shop samples she would let me sew at work too. I promise to take pics of any samples I make and show them to you all.

This quilt shop is in a tiny little town about 20 minutes from me. She told me they were looking for SEVERAL people to each work one day a week. SOOOO--if you are in the area I bet you could get a job too!!!

I would love it if every one could come and shop here. It is a darling little shop.

sandpat 05-24-2009 04:35 AM

Oh man...I'd have to build a bigger house to hold all the new stash! Thats a great deal...one that I'd take in a heartbeat! Too bad my commute would be a little far...

Justquilting 05-24-2009 04:37 AM

What a great job!! Congrats, and show us what you sew and get for fabric!!

BarbS 05-24-2009 05:24 AM

What a lucky lady you are. Give my right arm for that kind of job, well not literally lol or I couldnīt sew at all.

Mamagus 05-24-2009 06:56 AM

Oh I want to be YOU one day a month! Is that too much to ask!?

Congrats Marcia! Couldn't happen to a better person!

Lacelady 05-24-2009 07:10 AM

I am soooo envious. The only downside I can think of is that you will have more fabric, and less time to do anything with it!
