Anybody here tried the new binding clips called "Wonder Clips".
Yes, I know they are expensive. I am aware of that. Just want to know whether any other notions junkies (like me!) have tried them and what you thought. And yes, I know they are expensive.

buslady 06-02-2011 11:28 AM

I bought some "aligator" clips off clearance rack at WalMart, they work great!!! Cheep too.

thepolyparrot 06-02-2011 11:38 AM

Are these the ones you're referring to?

I think I would actually like them - I've never seen them before. I don't think they're expensive, though. Especially not if they work. ;)

I'm the queen of money wasted on useless notions, though so maybe I'm not the person to listen to.

Kitsie 06-02-2011 11:44 AM

I just use the small, silver hair clips from Dollar Store. And I only clip about 12 - 18 inches at a time to keep the binding lying flat and not have to squeeze or stretch it to fit. But that's just me!

dixiechunk 06-02-2011 11:57 AM

Yes those are the ones! A friend of mine showed me her new
goodies today and I loved them. The shop she works at is awaiting an order and I will buy from them even though I can get them cheaper on-line. Hint - go to amazon.com. SO glad you love tools and gadgets. Here locally, I am known as the gadget queen!

Please let us know how you like the wonder clips. I've used (recycled)
some small binder clips for potholders (3 layers of batting) and they worked
really well.

Would you believe they don't sell those silver hair clips here? Same for
buttons. Can't find a darn button in town. I have a fairly big collection of
buttons but you know Murphy's Law...never in the right size or colour. LOL

I had no problem getting the silver hair clips here..plus you can get different coloured ones too if you like.

Save yourself the $$ and head to the $$ $tore and buy some of the snap hair barettes. Simple to apply ... and a flick and you can take them off.

Holds perfectly!!!
Best thing ever ... and I've been able to get them anywhere from six to ten for a buck! :)

Yep, me too - a tool fiend.

It's a tough job, but somebody's gotta keep these companies in business, right?

I'm especially addicted to specialty rulers. I've been using the same two rulers 95% of the time for four or five years, but I keep buying all the oddball shapes and sizes for "someday," when I make the block that needs it. ;)

I do use the specialty rulers, though - Eleanor Burns' Flying Geese rulers are the absolute bomb. But, I just got Lazy Girl's No Math Flying Geese Ruler because it's got more sizes.

It's a sickness. :?

Hey, that's my title. Hadn't seen these, but w will be getting....looks easy to use...not too expensive

peaceandjoy 06-02-2011 02:50 PM

Another user of hair clips here! Love them - quick, easy, inexpensive and no more getting poked by pins!

The hair clip tip is probably one of the best ones I've ever gotten, and I am appreciative every time I sew on a binding.

The Wonder Clips do look pretty good, though.

I certainly agree with you. Mine work great and very inexpensive!!!

LivelyLady 06-02-2011 03:03 PM

I used the silver clips until some clever people on this board enlightened me to the ladder stitch. No clips needed and invisible stitches.......don't get any better than that.

clynns 06-02-2011 03:12 PM

I use the clips from Wally World too. My hands aren't what they used to be and it's easier to open and close with just a bend instead of pinching the clips. Just a thought...

Never thought of Wally World. I'll have to look next time I go.
They've closed the closest Dollar Store around here.

meemersmom 06-02-2011 11:51 PM

I use black binder clips (they come in all sorts of sizes), silver hair clips, and nylon coated paper clips. All work great, and are something I already have just lying around.

LAQUITA 06-03-2011 12:09 AM

First of all I had never seen these before, but llike the idea
(2) I don't think 10 for 4.99 is expensive at all!
(3) I agree with others that the black binder clips should work just as well and are some cheaper.
Thanks for sharing the link and the idea with the rest of us!

mmonohon 06-03-2011 12:11 AM

Dollar store ones for me. Work great.

jhoward 06-03-2011 02:50 AM

I used school glue, after reading about it here. I love it.
The hair clips work very well.

Vat 06-03-2011 03:16 AM

I don't pin or clip my binding to whip it to the back.

this sounds like a great idea! Will check it out!

19angel52 06-03-2011 03:23 AM

...wonder clips? I use the clips for hair from the dollar store....and they work sooo well!

TexasSunshine 06-03-2011 04:00 AM

I bought some clips similar to those at Houston Quilt show and I like them but wish they were longer. But I like the long hair clips you can get at Wal-Mart or $ store.

star619 06-03-2011 04:15 AM

I've never seen those clips before. Now I'll have to go look. Thanks, ladies & gents!

Fabaddict 06-03-2011 04:43 AM

go to Walmart and get the hair clips - cheaper and you get more in a pkg. and they work wonderful.

munchkinmama 06-03-2011 05:11 AM

Those clips look great. A little too pricey for me, though. I will be looking for hair clips. Thanks for the info. I use the silver clips when I am handstitching binding but never thought of this for sewing.

Me too! They work very well for me. Easy to open and close etc. Yolanda Wood River

mamaheath 06-03-2011 05:33 AM

we just got some in at the LQS I work at yesterday. From what I remember at looking at them they also have a way measure in the inside of the clip as well. Thought that was a neat idea.

MaggieLou 06-03-2011 05:38 AM

I think I would just use spring type clothes pins. They're a lot less expensive. Binder clips would be my next choice.

I'm a closet junkie. I stand in the aisles and look, touch, wish, and think of all the ways I could use all those wonderful toys, but in the end, I'm too cheap to buy them and the kids drag me away. I end up using wannabes; alligator clips, hair clips, wooden clothespins, vice grips... It just depends on how big the job and what I need the tool to accomplish.

sandraphippard 06-03-2011 05:56 AM

I haven't tried the wonder clips, but I went to Staples and bought a box of there small spring clips and they work the same way and a lot cheaper.

jaciqltznok 06-03-2011 05:56 AM

they LOOK good, but they break easily...many around here bought them after a teacher said they were a MUST HAVE...within 3 months they were all complaining about how shoddy they were and how fast they broke...

stick to the hair clips!

Totally curious on where you are using the vice grips in your quilting?

the wonder clips look great, have never seen them before. I have 2 diffferent kinds of plastic paper clips ,cheap to buy,
they work fine for light wait things. But the bigger clps work for the quilt bndings. may just order some of the wonder clips . Pins are out for me I have termors that result in lots of DNA left on items. I have tried clothes pins they work OK.

Deborahlees 06-03-2011 06:29 AM

The only problem I have found with the hair clips, that I also use, is once you close it, the fabric is not flat any more but bend down....the wonder clips appear to keep it flat flat....which may have an advantage...

:-P LOL. I had to get my dad's little vice grips from his toybox - I mean TOOLbox - to hold the corners. I had no idea how to do corner binding (still don't, actually) and had a big bunch of material to hold together until I could google binding and corners. Since then, I also use them to hold my backing down to the ping pong table instead of tape when I sandwich.

I just bought some of these hair clips at Walmart. My friend uses them all the time and really likes them.
