Wooden spools

Hi everyone. I have many wooden spools. When I cleaned out my mother's apartment and my aunts house, I found a lot of spools of thread that have wooden spools. I have been gradually using up the thread and now have a stach of wooden spools. Does anyone know what I can do with them. Seems a shame to throw them away.
Thanks
Rita

I saved my grandmother's wooden spools. My kids use to play blocks with them, string them with shoe laces and played bowling with the spools and a tennis ball. They are now in a clear vase and makes a pretty sewing room decoration.

Type "ideas for wooden spools" in Google. I did and it responded with lots of sites.

I have a very large old fashion pickle jar/jug about 20 " tall (clear) and I put them all in there ~ quite the conversation piece !
I enjoy looking at them in their various stages and yes when in need I do dig through it looking for a specific color. Never had the threads break -- I guess its still good ! And the grandchildren play with them too !

scouts & 4-H groups are generally very interested in taking them for projects if you want to pass them on- check with local scout groups- or even the public school -pre-school, elementary teachers & art departments---since schools have lost so much funding often teachers have to come up with supplies out of their own pockets- they appreciate donations.

Years ago I bought my niece a "spool bed" for her dollies .... yes, made out of old wooden spools!

Now I wish I had it and I'd make miniature quilts for it.

I always used old wooden spools to wind embroidery floss on.

I have a bunch too. Unfortunately, most of the thread is too old to use. I have decided to decoupage some of them and use them as the knobs on the cabinets we recently put up in my sewing area. I think the different thread colors will be pretty.

Wonder what the base for the wreath is?
