I think number 1. Maybe fade the photo a little more. That will be a great book.

I love the big blue quilt on the front, with a smaller inset of the photo. Maybe some of the diploma quilts on the back. Or flowers ;-) . Or some other motif. I really think the quilt and photo will entice readers. She's such a beautiful subject. The only thing missing is the technique. Make me buy the book (don't show me the cutting or anything else on the cover). I'm going to be interested enough just from those 2 images. It can't get easier. I can see what I start with, and what I'm going to get. You did people. I immediately thought of flowers (when we have this conversation months ago). You want to make it as universal as possible. I don't think I'd (personally) do people. But I love the idea of using the technique to create other images - whether they're flowers or landscapes or something else. Show me some other options on the back. |

Sigh, I was kinda liking the opaque lift away thing. Hmmm.. will have to think about this. I could do a diploma quilt, a wedding quilt, a baby quilt and a puppy dog quilt on the back. |
This is really exciting. Please keep us posted on the process.

I'm thrilled you're doing this. I think it's a great techniquie.
I don't know who your publisher is but they should be advising you that you usually need to get signed releases to use comments made by other people. I'll give you a blanket one no problem (I'm honored you chose mine). Nor, I'm sure, would anyone else have a problem. But in the world of publishing - when done correctly and legally - you can't just take a person's written word - even if it's on a public forum with funky ID names -and just use it again elsewhere without permission. I'm sure you've seen "reposted with permission" tags. Although, admittedly, rarely on this site. CYT. Cover your tuchis. |

I liked number 2 then you put up #5. I vote 5.

I like #6. I haven't seen this technique before and am intrigued. Let me know if you need volunteers for samples or when the book comes out where we can get it.

Suggestions only, not criticism...
You might reconsider the font size and weight, as well as all the wording used on the cover. As it is now, the title is the least significant thing on the cover when, in reality, it really should be the most. You want the title to be remembered so people can find it to buy it. Right now it looks like a brochure or a class advertisement, not a book cover. I'd make the blue quilt the entire cover, no photo at all, and put the text (no box, just the letters) down in the bottom 25% where the child is looking. Put the double image, photo and quilt, on the back cover with a brief synopsis of what's inside. Something like: Stained Glass Portrait Quilts from family photos to cherished quilts by Trudy Rhoads is all you really need to say on the cover. |
I like #2 -- you can see the different textures of the hair and dress and skin in both modes. Very cool by the way.
|
I think you need to have two small portraits. One in the upper left corner showing the portrait as it, then the next one in the right corner showing entire portrait as a stain glass portrait quilt.

#3!!!
Can you please notify us when the book is published. I would strongly consider purchase. Looks so cool. |
cover #6 definitely. Great job...

i like 3

6 definitely 6. It just makes you want to learn more...thus buy the book.
|
I like the 2nd one too. :) Can't wait to see the book when it comes out.
|
I am a 6. But wrap the text so it fits intot he background and not bleeding onto the pictures. you have the space to do that.
I think it is important to show boththe before and after picture on the front cover. Other books that I have seen that use photos as sources all have the source photo and the resulting piece on the front. Good luck and do let us know when it comes out! Becks |
Number 2 until I saw number 3! great idea and cant wait to be able to buy it!
|
I like the balance in #2
|
No. 2... oops just saw the rest. Def. No 6. It's great and says it all ! Sara
|
Number 2:)
|
Definitely No 3 - shows exactly what the book is about. Let us know when and where it is published - haven't tried this technique and it looks like you have a great book that will help us newbies!!
|
#6 Now, I want to pick up the book & take it home!
|
Oh the one with the overlay is even better....

Most of the text of "how to" is done, just need a little more detail here and there, and then I need create some generic patterns (which I may ask for volunteers to make up for me, to add pics to the book). What do you think of this? And how does the title catch you? Definitely cover #2!! |
#3 and thanks alot!! Yet another thing I want to learn to do. So let me know when and where I can get this book. ;-)
|
I also like #1 best; not sure why

Wow, this is just like laying out our quilt patterns....we keep it a goin' until it is perfect....this one with the Small picture and then the Larger one of the Stained glass on the cover would catch your attention right on the shelf in the book store or at Amazon.
|
I agree that #3 best shows what the book is about. Looking forward to seeing it on the shelves!
