I am working on writing a book of my Stained Glass Portraits, and over lunch time, was playing around with ideas for the cover.
Most of the text of "how to" is done, just need a little more detail here and there, and then I need create some generic patterns (which I may ask for volunteers to make up for me, to add pics to the book). What do you think of this? And how does the title catch you? cover 1 cover 2 |
Definitely no. 2 for me.
|
I llike the 2nd one, but would do the quilted effect over more of the face so it's more obvious. Can't wait to see this book!!
|
I like the full face of #1 (probably because she is so pretty! :-) :-) ), but #2 shows more of an example of what the book is about.
|
I like #1, and the title is just right.
 |
#2

#2
I didn't get it on #1. Got my light bulb moment with #2 |
Number 2
|
#2 catches my eye the best
|
#2 has my vote.
|
I vote for 2! Good luck!
|
# 2 ...what a great cover, beautiful little girl, and yes, it would totally catch my eye! Just did my first reverse applique, and would love to have had a book...

Yep.....it's number 3 for me also.
|
Just an idea, but here goes. How about #1 with a fold out with #3 or better yet the whole picture on it? It is a beautiful picture and a pretty angel on the cover. It would give a good picture of the technique, since it is fairly new, at least to me. Let us know when the book is available.

Sue Another option, I had not thought of til you mentioned this - maybe a opaque cover with the quilt lines over the photograph? Lift the opaque cover to see only the quilting lines, and look at the bottom cover to see only the photo. Lay them together to see how the photo changes into the quilting lines! |
O it has to be #2. o my goodness it mover you just to look it.
|
I've seen your completed quilt here on the QB and it is wonderful. Have you considered doing the whole quilt on the front of the package with an inset of the whole picture in the upper right hand corner? That way, an interested party can see everything of what you started with and everything of the finish. By chopping it up, some may think that is the way the finished product would be.
Good luck with publishing. We can say we knew you when. |

How is this?
some of you may recognize your comments, I will not really use your comments without your permission, this is just a test! an opaque cover of the cutting quilt lines over the book cover with the photo as you lift up the opaque cover, you can see just the lines that then reveals just the photo the back cover completes the story |
It just keeps getting better and better. I vote for # 4 now.
|
Wow! Impressive, loving the recent revision!

Your idea for no. 4 cover is the one I really like. No3 is a close second.
Good luck and hope it comes to Australia:) |
I like #1 The little girl is more integrated into the art that surrounds her and she is part of the art. I like the way the purple comes through the girl and meshes the picture with the art. # 2 just looks like an overlay of a picture on fabric.
Really like your concept! peace |
#3!

Okay, don't get mad but I'd change the fence out as you have in the later covers. Your quilt and design are really very elegant and the fence doesn't seem to fit. Seems to distract one from the design. If you had a primitive design or country design, it would make more sense.
Good luck with this venture - I'm excited for you! |
I like two best. both are very nice but I prefer two

Good luck with this venture - I'm excited for you! Good point, this is just my fence where I hang all quilts to get a nice level hanging pic. It is just the pic I snapped to make the tutorial for the QB. For the book, I would have my daughter take the actual book cover photo. I suppose a plain black or white backdrop would make it the best, especially if I have a gallery section, where several quilts show. She is a professional photographer and always does a breath taking job (she took the original photo of Emmy - it was just one of their snapshot days). If you want to see more of my daughter's work, you can access her web page through my blog. The pics in the "kids and family" section that are my other grandkids are: the girl with the fur hood, the boy with his ball cap on backwards and the eyes in strips of shadow and light. This last photo actually made honorable mention in an international professional photographer's photo contest. I plan to use some of her other client pics to create patterns (with their permission of course). Actually, I will probably have her do the design of the front and back cover. She designed the Employee Quilt Show flyer last year, and we got so many compliments on it. |

It will be really clear what the inspiration/starting point is, and how the final product turns out. Anyone looking at the cover will immediately get it. Want more info? Buy the book. ;-) Having the 2 take up the same space defeats the purpose. |
