If you click on this story and read through to the 2nd store owner, she talks about regionally inspired fabrics. She's charging $60 a yard, and almost $17 for a fat quarter...would you pay this amount for fabric??? I know I wouldn't... |
Never.
To me, it reads that she sells an upholstery material made of recycled plastic bottles. That would be too heavy for quilts, but I have seen material that expensive used for furniture and drapes. Not at my house, however! Anna's Linens works just fine.
I say if she is selling it and quilters are buying it for a quilt then she is certainly laughing all the way to the bank.
Absolutely, positively not!!
OH MY WORD!!! Couldn't afford it here!
I own a sign shop and my big machine is capable of printing on fabric. It wholesales at 3.00 per sq. ft. thats 27.00 per yard without the cost of the fabric. I have done complete wedding scenes 5'x9' for 150.00. scarves for 40.00 with babies at different ages. Many things people want on fabric. One man had his prize racehorse on fabric he used to upholster chairs for his office. Her prices are realistic if you want to design your own creation.
Well, let's see, I'm absolutely drenched in money, I prefer to have things that the "common" people can't afford, so perhaps I should buy it by the bolt. NOT!!!
If she can get it good for her but she won't be getting any of my meager (and that's the unfortunate true story) finances. |
Not in this life time!!!!
NO WAY......even if I could afford it......there is no way I'd pay those prices....plain and simple. There are a lot of very nice fabrics out there for a lot less money.
Several shops in WV, just did a special fabric for a shop hop. It's regional, but sure din't cost anything like that. They also did a batik in conjunction with shops in OH and KY. It was gorgeous, themed to those 3 states and cost nothing like that either!
Absolutely, positively NEVER!! Even if I could afford it! That is just CRAZY!!
Come on, we're talking about the Northern Berkshires, land of the nutjobs, East. They must have a lot more disposable income up "in them thar hills". LOL.
Personally, it isn't the most attractive fabric, but maybe would look good with a pair of Berkenstocks. |
Maybe....and a very big maybe if I saw a piece that would be used as art-stretched on a canvas and put on the wall. I would never buy a piece to cut or sew with at that price.

Careful now, I'm born and raised North Adams, been in NY for 6 years. ;)
Here is her website... http://www.marthaflood.com/home.html |
not in a million years
Without even looking at the article and can definitely say no.
My husband would kill me
one word answer... NO! I am not made of money and I could probably find something I wanted to use without having to have to pay $$$$$ per yd
It's probably not an unheard-of price point for upholstery fabrics. Those can be very expensive indeed!
I would be of interest for a special project or wall art or upolstry fabrics. ... not as fashion or quilting projects....
No way Jose! Not for a quilt but it's not a weight for a quilt so I don't have to be concerned, do I?????

It's not an outrageous price for upholstery-weight canvas, but I'm not in that league. I do occasionally go to spoonflower.com and drool over the gorgeous and funky fabrics there and their prices are comparable, $18/yard for quilting cotton. Maybe someday when I have too much money! ;D
Maybe, if it were solid gold, but, then I couldn't sew it. I would never pay that kind of money for anything. Sorry, I'm just tight.
Martha Stewart, take notice!! Sounds like it is just right for her overblown ideas.
I thouught the prices were a miss print. then i read the article and had an aneurysm. I would not be able to afford to quilt or sew or even think of buying fabric at that price.
No way, there are so many other things I could spend $60 on
I couldn't afford it & wouldn't pay it if I'd won a lottery.Goodness, you could have a custom hand made quilt for less.Blowing money just for the heck of it never interested me.Rather have a roof over my head & no bill collector at the door.
I looked at her website. Everything is recycled and eco friendly. It is expensive to go green. I don't think her fabric is for quilters unless you are independently wealthy. There were several wall hangings, you know fabric stretched on a frame, in her website. More art pieces than bolts of fabric. I have seen several businesses like this come and go in our area. I wish her luck, but I don't think it will last long in this economy.
It sounds like its more art than anything and art prices run the gamut. Would I pay that much? Depends on the piece. If it were a one-of-a-kind print, maybe. I paid $16 for a piece of giraffe print for a special wallhanging.
Anyone, except me maybe, can take a photo and print it on fabric. Have seen flowers and leaves printed from photos onto fabric and used in quilting--usually art quilts. Not my thing however. The fabric in question here is upholstery type and as we know, that can be expensive. Looked at the site and really didn't care for it except maybe the bark ones. Still wouldn't spend that much but apparently someone does.
Obviously she's an artist and I have a son who is also.
I always wonder how they make money to live on. My son teaches photography part-time at Ohio State and is learning pilates and yoga so he will have other options to make money. He's good at his art but it's just too hard to make a living at it. He's well aware of this but when you're an artist it's sometimes hard to work at a "regular" job. In this economic climate I'm amazed that she even has a shop like that. I wouldn't spend that kind of money but if I could afford it and liked it maybe I would. There are many things people spend big bucks on that I wouldn't but there are things I would if I could but I can't so I don't LOL :D |
It's all canvas or sheers, not suitable for quilting other then a fabric art quilt. We don't have to worry about quilting fabric being that expensive yet. The fabric is very pretty for decorating.
