Would you take this deal?
 

A lady close by is moving and has offered this deal: I am not big on the velvet but thought I might could use some of it for appliques (think animals).

I have about 8 full boxes of fabric. Some are sheeting, there is a lot of teal/dark turquoise velvet. One box is heavy fabrics like brocade, velveteens and velvets. Some is small pieces already cut for pouches and cell covers. It is quilt weight and heavier cottons. Most are bigger sized pieces. Before I did clothing, I did bags. The boxes are large moving size boxes about 2 ft x 14 in x 10 in tall. They are mostly heavy.

There is a good bit of felt, some vintage 70s sheets and other bits. I can throw in some vintage notions like rickrack and buttons, a couple of purse handles etc. You may only use about half of it, but it is great for linings, straps,etc, quite a bit of solid color pieces in denim and light canvas/twill weight for bags that you don't have to buy. It is about average for purse making value. Mostly none of it is designer fabric. There is some vintage fabric. I have a few bits of clothing I made, like skirts, that I later decided to reuse for fabric.

I'd really rather move it all along, so maybe we can make a deal for the whole 8 boxes? I can put all these in garbage bags for you if that would work better, btw.

How does $10 box sound ? If you take all 8 boxes, I can give you a better deal than $10 box...say $60.

Also I have a hanging dress form if you would like to use it for display. I also have one shopping bag of leather and a whole big box of vinyl for pouches and purses, if you want to venture that way. Let me know if you are interested in anything besides the fabric boxes and I'll work out a price for these things.

Not me. If I think I wouldn't use it, why keep it around.

If you were 'heavy' into crazy quilts or belonged to a crazy quilt group, I would say go for it. But to have 8 tubs to sit around until 'one day'. Thanks but no thanks

I would not buy anything I can't use...Just spent to miuch time clearing out unusable fabrics before I moved..I don't have time to use all the good stuff I have!!

I agree, it sounds like materials that I would not use but everyone is different so you must decide if this is something that you would be interested in. If you are interested, check it out as she is close to you, and perhaps only purchase the bag or bags that you would use. You could always be surprised.....so yes, check it out! :thumbup:

I doubt I would go for the "deal", many velvets, and upholstry fabrics require special care. I don"t like to work on fabrics that may or may not be able to go into the washing machine. Unless I knew exactly what I would use that quantity of non-quilting fabrics .. it would just be a big amount of clutter.

Real velvets are very expensive. Nice velvet throw pillows sold for $40 each at our Guild booth at a local Home Show. A lined velvet throw sold for $85. The fabric was donated from a local upholster shop that was ordered but wasn't used. We bought inexpensive solid color throw pillows at Walmart (cheaper then the forms) and put the velvet slip covers over them. We made a nice profit per pillow. Our time was donated to make the covers. Some members embossed designs in the velvets, added nice trim, and some embroidered on the velvet. The booth fees are pretty high in these type shows but if you have the right products to sell it will be a nice profit making venue.

If you have some friends that may be interested in some of it, include them in on it and share!

I have to say, I would pass. I've been given loads like that before, and while no doubt for someone it's all treasure, for a quilter often most of it is unusable, and then you have to find a home for what you can't use.

It's taken me a long while to be able to turn down fabric, but I have found it's better to be choosy...
