You know it's time to quit for the day when ...

... the cool design on the fabric square you just fussy cut turns out to be a loose thread leftover from the last fabric you cut.

... the 5" squares you've been cutting for the last 10 minutes were cut using a 4" template.

Ask me how I know ... [sigh]

Been there, done that. Sorry it happened to you, too. Hugs.

Tartan 09-18-2013 01:50 PM

I try to clear my quilting area so that just the tools needed are out. Why? I had both my black sharpie and my black Frixion on my table....lines with a black sharpie do not iron off the fabric!

Neesie 09-18-2013 02:29 PM

Yikes! Definitely time to call it a day!

Boston1954 09-18-2013 02:31 PM

You've been sewing for about 8 inches with no thread in the bobbin.

dunster 09-18-2013 02:46 PM

You make a 66" sleeve for a 56" quilt.

pinkcastle 09-18-2013 03:19 PM

I'm so sorry you've had a bad quilting day. Time to chill with a glass of wine or some lovely chocolate. Tomorrow has to be a better day!

Nammie to 7 09-18-2013 03:27 PM

When you don't take the time to straighten out the fabric that you just need a 3 inch square from and end up cutting a hole in the middle of the big piece!!

tessagin 09-18-2013 03:37 PM

You realize you needed a quarter of a yard and not just a fat quarter! Time for a conversation with "Bud", Dove, and or a visit from a pizza shop. Good Lord only knows what would happen if you try to cook. That can of Dinty Moore might actually be last can of your fur babies food!

sewmom 09-18-2013 03:41 PM

I had a day like that this summer. Everything I tried to sew, I messed up. Nothing was going right so I left and watched tv or whatever. Some days you're just not supposed to sew!

Mdegenhart 09-18-2013 04:39 PM

When you are cursing as you rip something out for the third time & realize you are ready to cry.

Quilt Novice 09-18-2013 04:55 PM

When you sew your pants to your quilt.

yel 09-18-2013 05:43 PM

Well, could have been the other way around...........measure twice, cut once!

I was thinking the same thing! :)

DOTTYMO 09-18-2013 10:05 PM

Time to gove up when you hand sew your finger to the block.

DebbieJJ 09-19-2013 02:11 AM

You all make my bad days seem not so bad.........now! ;)

Reb 09-19-2013 02:22 AM

You start giving into temptation. "I can just do a little bit more." or "that's good enough". You know you'll be reverse stitching that tomorrow, in the light of day!

GingerK 09-19-2013 03:15 AM

When you rip out a whole section, and then realize it was fine--you really wanted to work on the one NEXT to it.

Or chain-piecing 15 pairs of squares (4 1/2") with no thread in the needle. Don't ask:o

lovelyl 09-19-2013 03:44 AM

When you have only one more row of blocks to sew together for your quilt and realize you cut the last set 1/4 inch too small. No more fabric in the stash or LQS! Last time I sew blocks/rows together without squaring up ALL the blocks before joining them instead of squaring up a row at a time...

mengler 09-19-2013 04:49 AM

I am not a quilter exclusively and am usually in a hurry ergo I have made similar mistakes more often than I can count. Sorry that happened I thought I was the only person on the planet who did that. We all get distracted. I just buy more fabric and move on.

Jeannette51 09-19-2013 05:15 AM

Time to quit?? How about the days you just shouldn't make the effort. When you spend more time with the seam ripper than the sewing machine? Anybody had any of those days????

lclang 09-19-2013 05:17 AM

If you are losing things, cutting wrong, sewing without thread in bobbin, etc. it's definitely time for a break, a loooong break to regroup.

That's a given. . lol

Rubesgirl 09-19-2013 05:20 AM

When that little voice in your head says, "Go ahead, keep on sewing . . . BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! It will look just fine and of course you can always fix it tomorrow!" It's definitely time to stop.

Shorebird 09-19-2013 05:21 AM

OMG - this sounds like one of MY days..........when I get on a roll........and do not stop to pay close enough attention or to "smell the roses".........I have to, on a daily basis.......slow myself down, and remind me to stop and enjoy the process, not just the finished product!

Hope you could recover from the mis-hap.....

Shorebird 09-19-2013 05:21 AM

Love this one!!

kydeb 09-19-2013 06:12 AM

Time to quit when you rip it out and resew it only to realize that you just sewed it wrong - it was right the first time. Time to turn the lights out and find something else to do! LOL Everyone has been there!!

TOTALLY my most frequent problems - and when they happen together, I say JUST WALK AWAY, SUE!

mpeters1200 09-19-2013 06:43 AM

I have been working on a fairly difficult sew and flip quiltblock that the pattern calls broken spider web. I had my 4 quadrants all with the strips on half of them like I was supposed to. I put my background fabric down to measure and square up before putting the last seams on and successfully cut 3 quandrants in half. Didn't move them far enough out of the way. I did physically shed tears over that. It was time to be done for the day!

mighty 09-19-2013 06:56 AM

Oh been there, so sorry!!!

Jean45 09-19-2013 07:28 AM

When you sew a good portion of the bottom of your maternity top in the quilt. (That was a very long time ago). Most recently, when you sew the corner of your sweater in your quilt. Can't even toss it up on the ironing board and forget about it. If I didn't take out the seam now my sweater will follow me all day.

gcandler4 09-19-2013 07:39 AM

when you don't remember falling asleep at the sewing machine. :)
