I'm trying to finish a quilt I stopped working on 2 years ago. Theres 2 diff. fabrics I need more of.
I looked in the local fabric stores and couldn't find any.
So I came home and looked at the selvedges for the manufacturer info and got on the computer.
One I found, at Bernatex.com, although their website doesn't have a way to buy the fabric. So I'll have to find it in another store online hopefully..
But the second fabric I need has no info along its selvedges. No color dots, no manufacturer, etc.
I'd never noticed that before.
How can I find out who manufactured this fabric?
And I thought all fabric makers put the info along the selvedges?

amma 05-08-2010 09:55 AM

I have several that do not have any info, and a couple that only have a name and "printed exclusively for" but not enough info to do a easy search if I needed additional pieces.

sharon b 05-08-2010 10:02 AM

Good luck looking . Is it possible to add another fabric since you can't find any info ?

Maybe post a pic and someone can help you

fabric-holic 05-08-2010 10:11 AM

The Bernatex fabric's info is:
the Classically Home "Aspen" collection by Marianne Elizabeth.
#2916-72 Poppies Pumpkin
That's what it says on the selvedge.
(although the website says that's the old item number.
The new # is 291672B)
I sure wish I could just buy it through the Bernatex website. How odd that they don't let you.

I'll have to try to upload a picture of them (easier said than done...lol)
Here's a pic I found online of one of the fabrics but I can't find anyplace to buy it!!!
Apparently they only sell to stores. Grrr!

quiltluvr 05-08-2010 10:26 AM

I have a ton of fabric that doesn't have any selvedge info. Gggggrrrr!!!

I hope you can post a pic and someone here can help. Even with info, if it's so out of date, by manufacturers timeline, the strongest possibility is someone may have it in their stash. Hope it turns up. Wish I had some to help.

I always start all my fabric searches with Quiltshops.com. I have ordered online from a bunch of these shops. Since the search always returns a bunch of shops that have a fabric I am looking for I can quickly compare prices. Here's the link-
http://www.quiltshops.com/

Don't use the "item search" on the page that comes up, that one will give you thumbnails of just fabric. Click on the "item search" on the top of the links on the left of the page, that will give you a list of shops and all the fabric within your search criteria. I find it gives me a greater chance of hitting what I am looking for. Just put in Aspen and see what happens.

Good Luck. :)

JoAnnGC 05-08-2010 10:58 AM

Try this or just do a Google search to see if you can get it at a lower price elsewhere.

I guess after looking at this again the real issue is that some selveges have no info. I don't have an answer for that. I have run into that problem a couple times. Makes me crazy!

OOOOOOHHHH....so close! I tried your link and found the correct fabric collection BUT the wrong shade!!!! It's too yellow. AACCKK.....but I'll keep trying. Thanks so much.

Holice 05-08-2010 11:24 AM

why don't you write Benartex and ask if they know a shop that carries the fabric and where you can get it. Or send email to Marianne Elizabeth.

Thanks Holice, I hadn't thought of that.
I guess I'm just too angry for not buying more at the time. thump, thump, thump.... Hear that noise? That's me kicking myself...
Edited---just sent an email to her. Thanks again for the idea.
Edit #2---just sent email to Bernatex. Now I'll just have to cross my fingers. (thump thump thump)

Swan Song 05-08-2010 12:06 PM

You guys are amazing!
Rachel, how on earth did you locate an unknown piece of fabric?
Anyway, I've already put a bid on the ebay fabric. It's not long enough but it's a start.
I guess my "searching" ability leaves a lot to be desired.
I googled different words, diff phrases, etc. and I never could find either fabric.
But thank you both a thousand times!
I'd send Tom Selleck to kiss you too if I could!
Karen

:) Happy to help!! Hopefully you can find more of the green, the seller says it's Marcus Brothers Textiles, but it looks like an older line as I can't find it anywhere by googling them ....

fabric-holic 05-08-2010 12:58 PM

Yes I've already gone to the Marcus Bros Textile website. Can't find it there. Bad sign I'm afraid.
But now that I know the mfr. hopefully it'll help.
thanks again!

Swan Song 05-08-2010 01:36 PM

Glad to be of assistance :) athenagwis did the impossible I think. I know who to shout at when I have a mystery fabric!

Mary Koch-
Yes I saw this too. They sound a little uptight, don't they? I've already ordered from them so I it goes OK.
Thanks anyway.

How come y'all know more online fabric stores than I do????
I thought I knew how to search but I'm feeling very amateur-ish compared to y'all!!!....lol.
Again thanks for everyone's help. I hope I can repay it someday.

You can repay us by sharing pics of your wonderful sounding quilt!! :) :) :)

fabric-holic 05-09-2010 09:09 AM

I took a swatch of my mystery green fabric to the largest Joanns in town today since it's apparently part of their Keepsake Calico collection. But there wasn't any available. They said they've seen Keepsake Calicos fabrics come and go so it could become available again later in the year.
I'm still looking online and off for it, but I've decided to substitute a different fabric so I can get this quilt done. (The mystery fabric was supposed to be the main border fabric, of course!!...sigh.).
From now on, if I like a fabric as much as I liked this one, I'm going to buy as much as I can afford, instead of only as much as I think I need.
****!!

Swan Song 05-09-2010 01:15 PM

Huh, I thought I had seen that fabric somewhere before. I can take a look at the JoAnn's here. Just so happens I was going to stop in for something there tomorrow. How much do you need if i find it?

Honchey 05-09-2010 01:27 PM

Hi, Ask THEM for the names of the dealers/distributors they send their fabric to. They should be able to tell you if they carry that line/design.

craftybear 05-09-2010 03:31 PM

wow, nice that others can help you find the fabric

Wow thank you....I'm amazed by the kindness of the people of this board to total strangers. You're truly special people and I'm proud to be part of this group.
As much as I appreciate your wonderful offer, I've already switched to a different fabric for the borders and have started cutting them etc. So I don't need the mystery fabric urgently anymore.
But, my! I'm very grateful for your offer!
Edited: Just a side note in case anyone here ever emails Bernatex at their website as I did for the second fabric that I needed. I just got a "mailer deamon" in my email saying the email never got through to Bernatex eventhough I used the address they posted on their website.
I wonder if they realize their email address doesn't work?

Swan Song 05-09-2010 04:16 PM

Ok Karen. I am looking for a specific book and I thought I would try there before I breakdown and order it online. (Plus I have a coupon :)) You know I am going to look anyway ;)
Glad to hear you found something else that works.

I used my coupon a week ago and I can't wait till the next one comes! There's always something I need and the coupon sure comes in handy, don't they? I hope you find the book you want. Which one is it, if you don't mind telling me?

Swan Song 05-09-2010 05:29 PM

Oh sure it is Carol Doak's 50 paper pieced stars and Tradition with a Twist. I will buy one with this coupon and one with the next if they have both ;)

Swan Song 05-09-2010 05:32 PM

Oh I guess I should have added I have never paper pieced but want to try and do a Mariner's compass on a quilt for my Dad (ex-Navy) for Father's Day (this year I hope LOL). If not done it becomes a Christmas present ;)

fabric-holic 05-10-2010 02:51 AM

I have Traditions with a twist (love it) and maybe the 50 pp stars too.
I don't pp very often because I hate picking the little pieces of paper out of the seams but it sure makes precise blocks!
Have you checked Amazon or ebay, etc?
I hardly ever buy quilt books new. (that gives me more money to buy fabrics...lol)

Swan Song 05-10-2010 04:44 AM

Have you looked at this link?
http://www.twiddletails.com/store/in...age=page&id=21

I found it interesting since you don't have to pick little pieces out of the seams. I thought I would have a go at it.
I have found quite a few books at half price books and I do get some from ebay and amazon. But since I have this coupon just sitting here and I have to be in the area for other errands today I thought why not?

fireworkslover 05-10-2010 05:05 AM

You can try looking for it online. Search in Google and just basically describe the fabric. I found a gold metallic print that way, one time. It took a lot of looking, but I did find it and got the amount I needed from the shop.
