You know you're a quilter when you are on vacation in a beautiful old hotel and find yourself taking pictures of the carpets and your sister says, "Quilt pattern, right?"

Patchworkmarion 03-27-2011 10:13 PM

When you take pictures of tiled floors and archways, also flowers and plants when on holidays.

Qbee 03-27-2011 11:32 PM

That is SO me! I see them on beds, walls, everywhere in movies. LOL :D

Exactly. Only now, my DH picks them out just as quick as I do (LOL).

It's it surprising what inspires us!

That actually happened to me last Friday at my local Jo-Ann's Fabrics. There was a big sale and I was treating myself to the texture of some lovely red patterned cottons when the lady came up to me and said 'your hands had better be clean!'

Oh, is that funny! When did the quilt police come into the kitchen?

DeeBooper 03-28-2011 03:35 AM

You know you are a quilter when you wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep so you start designing quilts in your head or think of all the UFO"S you still have!

theresa.redington 03-28-2011 03:40 AM

I make sure I use 1/4" seam when sewing :o)

I do this too. I see carpet in one of the nursing home and think (I could copy this) pattern would make a nice applique.

Essence 03-28-2011 03:51 AM

You're storage room is now you're stash room.

marilynquilt 03-28-2011 04:02 AM

You Google "quilt shops in ..." whenever you plan a vacation!

angelarose 03-28-2011 04:06 AM

Went to church last night to sing in the choir...threads on my pants and all!

All of the above!!!!!!!!

redmadder 03-28-2011 04:21 AM

Oh my Gosh! I am guilty of everyone of these, didn't know there were so many others. My husband's friend was wearing a shirt that was so irresistable, I asked him for it. He gave it to me the next day. I made him a quilt for his new baby. Never got the shirt off a stranger's back, it could happen!

when spring arrives and you start to purchase and try to patchwork your garden

redmadder 03-28-2011 04:28 AM

Oh yes, you're on a plane and admiring the way fields and forests are laid out!

fabricfairy 03-28-2011 04:31 AM

You know you are a quilter when you spend thousands of dollars remodeling your kitchen and you put in a bench big enough to bast a q/s quilt on so you dont have to get down on your knees anymore , and everyone at quilt guild wants to come and bast at your house. Cathy

quiltease 03-28-2011 04:32 AM

Woman in line ahead of me had a beautiful scarf on and I asked her if it was a batik. She said she didn't know so I felt it, turned it this way and that, and said yes, probably a silk or rayon and she said, "It could be silk". And there I am still lovingly fingering her scarf, which was still around her neck! I didn't want to stop! The woman must have thought I was nuts. But it was soooo pretty (can you tell I love batiks??). Would have gone great with my stash..
bev.

Donna Mae 03-28-2011 04:32 AM

someone is wearing a nice shirt or blouse that would look great in a quilt!!
simple quilter

Tinabodina 03-28-2011 04:34 AM

.....when every time you leave the house you take a lent roller to make sure the threads are off your close.

bamamama 03-28-2011 04:37 AM

When you can stay in your sewing room for days on end without caring if your family is starving to death!

Oh my! I just did that on a recent flight!

I have to laugh when some of you post about wanting to just "touch" the fabric....when we were in NZ recently, I wasn't able to sew for over 2 weeks. Didn't find many LQS in the area I was, but did find one. Did buy a little fabric, but spent a lot of time petting it!

charity-crafter 03-28-2011 04:41 AM

When you won't let children color in your coloring books because you use them as applique patterns.

You step lightly in the sewing room because those pesty pins fall to the floor. You can feel the pin before it does damage and can quickly pull it out.

You're at work and someone asks why you have those long pins in your shirt, well because I was up this morning sewing.

People don't bother to ask how you spent your weekend, because everyone already knows you spent it quilting.

meinreno 03-28-2011 04:43 AM

That is so funny....I do the same thing. I look for patterns in everything.

#1piecemaker 03-28-2011 04:50 AM

I've been guilty of all of these things so far that the other board members have listed. I've got calluses on my fingertips, I always notice the patterns on tile. I can't even look at crossstitch patterns without seeing a quilt. I love Little House on the prarie and the Waltons because of all of the quilts they show. Even my DH has asked,"What pattern is that?" I have threads all over me and my carpet. And, most of the time, I'd rather stay home and quilt than to go out.

MS quilter 03-28-2011 04:50 AM

Love the above answers. I must be guilty! I have done them all. Yesterday, at church, I hugged our pianist and said, " I love your blouse." YOU know what I meant!

WMUTeach 03-28-2011 05:01 AM

LOL!!! I did this as I flew up the gulf coast of Texas from a job assignment. I grabbed paper and drew pages and pages of geometric fields all in dusty grey/green and faded purple crossed with narrow charcoal gray roads and occasionally gray blue streams. Absolutely gorgeous and inspiring! Now, that was about 5 years ago and I just need to find those pages so I can put them to fabric. Perhaps memory will have serve as my pattern. The world is a quilt.

Dotsie 03-28-2011 05:05 AM

When I close my eyes at night and see squares and colors and fabrics.

trolleystation 03-28-2011 05:10 AM

When you go to a local restaurant and see a framed picture on their wall and think what a wonderful quilt that would make. Maybe next time I will take my Camera.....

I have been at work also, on a really stressful day when my patients and their families have drove me bonkers and have decided that I could easily live on a rock and just need my fabric, a treddle machine and a lot of wood for fires and some non perishable food and be just fine. That is when I knew that I was a true quilter. LOL :) :-o

Rettie V. Grama 03-28-2011 05:24 AM

I forget to allow for the seams, sometimes.

Izaquilter 03-28-2011 05:32 AM

I know I'm a quilter because....
Everything I use or look at I wonder if there is a purpose for it in my quilting room. (Chop Sticks from the local Chinese restaurant make wonderful pokers for corners!)

Masking tape (paint tape)is used to mark my ruler when cutting out alot of the same sized strips

When you go out of your way to get to a quilt shop & say "But honey I was right there, I had to stop"

When ALL of your friends are quilters & you find you don't associate with anyone who is NOT a quilter! (this stands true to me)

When you meet someone & can't understand why they wouldn't want to quilt! ARE YOU CRAZY!

Have threads all over the house from them sticking to your socks from being in the sewing room.

When you have more than one project going & you find yourself looking for another to start!

I have more but I will stop!

feffertim 03-28-2011 05:32 AM

Am getting ready to move across country and was getting some things ready to take to goodwill, all of a sudden a lite went on and I started pulling out all my old jeans and some old flannel shirts to cut up for fabric squares.

Jagsd3 03-28-2011 05:35 AM

You look at the bottom of shoes and think that would make a neat quilt design for a quilt.

MaryAnnMc 03-28-2011 05:40 AM

hee hee.... I work as a waitress at an upscale restaurant, and I look at customers' clothes and think, "That would make great quilt fabric!" They have no idea what I'm thinking when I compliment them on their clothes. Ha!
