I never understood DH's obsession with rugby ... not anymore ....

wishfulthinking 03-28-2011 05:42 AM

I realized this morning that I was doing a free motion stippling design as I squeezed mustard onto my husband's lunch sandwich!

Playtime7 03-28-2011 05:55 AM

This forum just confirmed I am a TRUE QUILTER!!! I do all the things stated above.... ISN'T IT GREAT!!!!!

pollym44 03-28-2011 05:59 AM

Seeing patterns in floor designs, wall paintings and just about anything in view.

mhansen6 03-28-2011 06:08 AM

You know your are a quilter when you plan your vacation around visiting as many quilt shops as possible.

When you HATE Monday mornings because you are having quilting withdrawals. (I didn't quite as much done this weekend as I wanted to)

A friend gave me a small mint box and I looked at it and thought what a great quilt pattern. - J

Marcia D 03-28-2011 06:23 AM

OMG, me too. It drives my husband crazy.

marthe brault-hunt 03-28-2011 06:24 AM

You take out your square ruler to make sure that the tiles your husband is gluing on the wall are straight. You see a quilt and say the name of the block pr try to identify the quilter (e;Jinny Beyer)é

grandjan 03-28-2011 06:43 AM

This is funny. I have a friend who actually made a quilt based on the tile of the men's room floor at her synagogue. Don't even ask what she was doing in there. LOL The quilt was very pretty, by the way.

quilter1943 03-28-2011 06:48 AM

This happens to me all the time since I don't want to waste a minute and will sit down to sew just a bit before we head out for dinner somewhere. Don't you always have on dark pants too? They seem to just show everything.

Many of you have said that you got inspiration for a quilt from a tiled floor.

But has any one else got your inspiration from a quilt to make your floor tile pattern? We put this tile floor into our front hall a couple years ago. I wanted to make it look like a quilt.

amandasgramma 03-28-2011 06:49 AM

...............when you're sick as a dog, laying on the couch and you realize the design on the box of tissues would make a GREAT quilt pattern

Wow, nice!

purplefiend 03-28-2011 07:11 AM

I'm a quilter and often use one of my treadle machines to piece my quilt tops. I was watching a British comedy yesterday on Youtube and saw a Singer treadle machine in the background. I kept backing it up to try and see what model it was. It was a coffin top, couldn't see the machine.

CoriAmD 03-28-2011 07:12 AM

You buy a gift bag because the fairy on the bag would make a good applique template for a quilt...

GABBYABBY 03-28-2011 07:29 AM

Ditto!!! Done this!!! ha ha ha

My time 03-28-2011 07:30 AM

I am guilty og all of tha above. Our friends husband buys the nicest, brightest cotton shirts. One day I was over heard saying to him " Can I have your shirt when you through with it? It would be great in a quilt". My husband just shook his head. I get a lot of that.lol

You found me out.

A guy I work with was building a shed and needed help figuring out what measurement to use for a board. He sketched out his problem on paper. When I came up with a number for the length of board he needed he said.... "how did you figure that out?" not believing it was the right length. I told him I was a quilter and it looked like the edge of a quilt with blocks set on point. What he needed was the length of a "set in triangle".... I was right too...:v)

hairquilt 03-28-2011 07:35 AM

Yes Rainybug You said it perfect!

DonnaB 03-28-2011 07:53 AM

You know you are a true quilter when all you get for your birthday are gift cards to the local LQS or JoAnne's.

Gabrielle's Mimi 03-28-2011 08:06 AM

...when you look at houses for sale and dream about where you'd put a long arm

...when you DH packs the Quilters Travel Companion in the car first thing before every trip

...when you run to the quilting book section at the library or book stores

...when you dream about new quilt designs

...when you make cut-paper quilt decorations for your scrapbook pages

...when you dream about teaching your 5-month old DGD how to quilt

...when you hear your DH promise that DGD a Bernina 830 when she starts to quilt (and you don't have one!!!!)

...when you're glad (not mad) that DH promises that machine to that sweet baby!

yolanda 03-28-2011 08:07 AM

...when you look at your 2 year old's snow suit (as she's wearing it no less!) and realize suddenly that the color is the PERFECT match for that pink fabric that you can't find ANYWHERE...the fabric you were shorted in the Broken Star quilt kit...the kit that was too old to get replacement fabric for...and...well...come on now, guys! Winter was about over and she was outgrowing the suit anyway and who needs snow suits anymore because we were moving back to Florida...and I only needed enough for ONE diamond to finish the quilt... Well, I did it, LOL...and I was right. It was a perfect match!

Don't know if this is a good thing but it's my UFO's.

Doris Sumnicht 03-28-2011 08:57 AM

Ha. I have done the first action twice. A pattern on a tile floor can be a beautiful quilt pattern, and once I had my friend wait for a while while I sketched a block from the tile floor of a rest room in another town, and then took another from an older hotel near downtown Denver. Good designs are timeless. Made a table runner from one of those designs.

nawnee_00 03-28-2011 09:02 AM

I recieved a bottle of cologne for Christmas and saved the box because it had beautiful flowers and birds for possible applique quilt. Janice

You know you're a quilter when you start thinking that EVERYTHING is a quilt. We're all "pieced": ".....the finger bone connected to the hand bone, and the hand bone connected to the arm bone, and the arm bone connected to the shoulder bone....."

vschieve 03-28-2011 09:19 AM

When you have gone from "diddling" in a meeting to designing your next quilt in a sketch.

Sandra in Minnesota 03-28-2011 09:23 AM

When my dog comes home from the groomer with a bandana that is perfect for a quilt I'm thinking about. Even called her to ask where she got the fabric!

Ramona GG 03-28-2011 09:58 AM

You know you are a quilter when...Instead of getting rid of your old favorite cotton clothing, or your children's, you tuck them into the 'bag' to save just in case you may need that one perfect color piece or scrap for a quilt project!

PiecesinMn 03-28-2011 10:08 AM

I just got back from a trip to Florence (all the terrific tile work) and I'm taking pictures of walls and floors thinking what a great quilt pattern this tiling would make. Others in my group thought I was a few bricks (tiles) short of a full load. LOL.

I am allergic to the blankets you get on planes so I always carry a throw size quilt with me. The last time I flew it was in the middle of the night and a Siamese cat crawled up on my lap under the quilt and purred both of us to sleep. A few hours later when we were nearing our destination I realized the flight attendants were frantically looking for something. I asked if they were missing something and was told no but they kept looking everywhere. Finally flagged down the attendant and said "are you sure you aren't looking for something? Because this Siamese cat under my quilt doesn't belong to me!" She rolled her eyes and said, "Only a Quilter!"
Now what did she mean by that?

darlin121 03-28-2011 10:30 AM

I have literally taken the shirts off the backs of my husband and so-in-law to use the fabric in a quilt. I couldn't resist the fabric was perfect for a quilt I was making. Don't worry, I bought them new ones.

Judy Smith 03-28-2011 10:30 AM

I also do machine embroidery so everything I see, I see as a quilt or embroidery design.

quilter2theend 03-28-2011 10:39 AM

You know you are a quilter when you can't bring yourself to throw out even your scraps. Just picked up a bag from an Amish store and they were free.
