I need pictures with patterns/directions. No picture, I will usually pass it by. How about you? Will you try something if you don't have a picture?
I can do without pictures, but when I am teaching I need a lot of visual aids. If I can not make pictures to show I will have the same project at different stages so I can show what will the step look like when I am doing it.

I need a picture too :D:D:D

Me 3!!!
Rarely would I try a pattern without a picture, so yes, I am a very visual person. Sometimes I will go by the picture even more than the instructions.
I like to have a picture, too!
throw the instructions out and give me very good pictures. If I can see how it is done I am good. And for get crazy quilting it is too crazy for me I need clean straight lines :)
I don't HAVE to have it, but I certainly learn better visually! My recall is much, much better when I've "seen it." I love picture tutorials!
Yes, pictures please!
I'm a visual person too.
More than once I have even stapled paper together to show how a block goes together. |

took me all afternoon yesterday!? I will just make it in two colors plus different colored stars. Not the actual colors in the pattern but might help to go patch by patch better this way
No way for me to follow a written instruction without picture - a lot of pictures........ does that answer your question |
I am totally visual. Instructions confuse me. I would much rather see something and try to reproduce it in my own way.
I am a visual person, but I often will attempt a pattern because I have enough background knowledge/experience that I should be able to figure it out (I hope).
I am a visual person also, that's why I have a hard time making a mystery quilt because I can't see the end result.
Often I need only the picture. I think I am a visiual learner because I shy away from mystery quilts too.
Pictures definitely, but even better, and in addition to, -- I like to watch someone work whatever it is.
I don't have to have a picture, but it's easier with one, especially if the instructions aren't very clear or I'm just not getting it
I am a visual person.
I agree about mystery quilts
I never like the end result I can follow the directions but I always hate the fabric combinations after it is finished. but I find most people are more visual |
I am a very visual person; so it makes it quite difficult for me to chose fabrics for quilt projects on my own.
Since I'm still fairly new to quilting, it certainly helps me to have pictures, or better yet, a tutorial on-line so I can see what/how its being done.
I also need a picture, without it I am lost as to which colors I should use in a quilt.
I tend to rely more on the picture than the written. I'll read it to get sizes of pieces, then I totally go by the picture.
I am a visual learner. I need pics.
Visual for me too..I need pics.....
Gotta have a picture! Without one, I cannot overcome my inability to get things WRONG! Because I am excellent at getting stuff sewn where & how it ought not to be, I have to check and re-check everything before I sew. I can't do it without the aid of a picture.

Really interesting post! Do we like pictures (visuals) in directions because we are quilters, or are we quilters because we are visually oriented?
Visual and hands on for the most part.
If someone is really good at instructions, then I can follow fine. If they are not, I loose interest real quick. |
Definitely a visual person. also need instructions. I admire anyone that can produce just from a picture.
I do well with written instructions.

I am so visual I am off of the scale. I cannot learn any other way, it is almost a disability.

How many here can look at somthing and figure out how the exterior puzzles back together??? |
I like pictures +(diagrams). When I design a pattern I try to have step by step diagrams to go with the instructions. Also the instructions are "short and sweet" no extra words. Its "cut 5 --two and one half inch strips WOF" (then a diagram)
"sub cut each strip into 16 -- 2 and one half inch squares" (diagram) etc. then visual people can look at the pictures and people who need the written directions have it too. Would you like directions like this? |
I am a visual person but need a pattern for the mesurements.
I definitely prefer visuals.
Many a time I have struggled through poorly written instructions only to discover once I've seen a photo, the areas where I made more work for myself. Gimme pictures (or good diagrams)... and lots of them! |
I am beyond a visual person. I am a visual addict. While I can read something a dozen times with lots of trial and error, one look at pics of how something is supposed to be put together or done and I am usually good to go.

Insructions are great - but without a picture they are worthless to me!
