I think my first was just some squares, framed with sashing and cornerstones. My first real quilt pattern was an Irish Chain. I remember being amazed at how the blocks went together and formed the chain.

My first quilt was a cheater panel that I made for my daughter. Having no concept of batting, quilting, etc., I used 2 layers of an old mattress pad as well as a layer of poly batting, then I did a SID around the pre -printed squares - my old Sears Kenmore didn't bat an eye at all that bulk, but she never really liked cottons or thin fabrics. The second quilt was a royal blue and black triple Irish chain with a leopard print backing for my 12 year old son with a poly batting. When he lefthome,it went with him, wherever he went.

Mine was called the Rhode Island Star that came from a book os States patterns. I cut out each piece using the sewing method of pinning the patterns to fabric and cutting with scissors. was truly a scrap quilt since I used some of my husband's old shirts. Sadly, I still have the blocks but have not put them together. I think there were 13. Since I don't have that pattern any more, can't make any more to even out the top.

My first was the stack and whack crazy 9 patch. It's still on the bed in our guest room, but then, I only started in 2010!

Mine was an Asterick block, in fact 25 of them and they are still in a plastic container waiting for me to sew them all together and decide if I want to SID or QAYG them. I have made a couple of baby quilts (kits) but thats it so far I'm still a beginner.

My first quilt block was a hand stitched churn dash block that was taught at a small fabric shop. No one mentioned points, pressing, locking seams....I haven't made one since that one. (Now that I quilt by machine, it may be on my bucket list.)

My first was applique of animals for a baby quilt.

My first quilt top was made when I was in 7th grade, about 49 years ago. I was trying to copy my grandmother's quilt which my father told me was called single wedding ring. I used fabric from scraps in my 7th grade home ec class. I found out much later that I made the dresden plate pattern. I still have the quilt (my sister suprised me by having it quilted for my college graduation gift.) somewhere....
