I have made 1 for each of my 2 grand kids. Plan to make another for my oldest son out of his t-shirts he had from college. All the others go to Rainbows baby and children's hospital (university Hospital of Cleveland). They are 40x40 ones that are given to the patients that don't have long to live. The nurses help them write thngs on them so a few of the squares are made with lt solid color fabric. The patient uses it till they pass. Than the quilt of course is given to the family they leave behind.
This gives me pleasure to do the craft I love and also it helps a family get thru a rough time. how rewarding is that. including a couple pictures of a memory quilts I have made |

All of mine are given away. Someday I will make one for me.
I have given all of my quilts away. I make lap quilts for friends when they have major birthdays--those ending in a "0"--and baby quilts for young friends and now "old" friend's grandkids. Now I am starting to make charity quilts. I love making the quilts, and equally love giving them away.
So far , I have given all of mine as gifts.
I, so far have given my quilts as gifts and I still have many to make and have a waiting list for my family. I have, however, cut one for myself. Now, when I can get to it is another matter.
I make my quilts to give to family and friends...
I give most of them as gifts for friends and family. I started one for myself awhile back, but never finished it. I need the deadline of a gift giving situation.
Do have a few but most are given as gifts to family and friends.
I make my quilts for family. Maybe once I have made quilts for all family members I will start on quilts for friends.
Keeping them now
My quilts are given away. I worked my tail off last year and gave away 15 quilts for Christmas. Got only a couple of thank yous. Now this year my quilts will be for me and my husband. I guess not everyone loves quilts the way I do.
Most are given away because they are made with the recipient in mind. Sometimes I make a wall hanging or table runner for myself.
Right now, all the ones I have planned are for me. We moved into a larger home a year ago, and the place begs for wall hangings, table runners, ect. I would love to make gifts, but no one I know values hand made objects. From prior experience, I know things I make will wind up in the trash or goodwill box. My parents and my in-laws don't think items are valuable unless you buy them.
All have been given away and continue to be given away. One day a special one will be made for me.
Mainly for others. I and other volunteers around Gr Cincinnati area make them for the Ronald McDonald House Cincinnati for children staying there with families while have medical procedures at Cincinnati Childrens. We meet with house moms 1st Thursday monthly to teach them how to sew & quilt. QUILTERS, BATTING AND JUVENILE FABRICS ARE ALWAYS NEEDED.
Mostly for gifts. I'm starting to make quilts for me and my DH, but they seem to always get pushed to the back of the line. :)

Usually i have kept the quilts that i have made, after all that time and tears that goes into one, its hard to part with it.
I do not have any quilts that I have quilted, for myself. However, I do have a puzzle quilt done in batiks that is waiting to be quilted - and it will go on our bed. I have wall hangings that I have kept -- everything else has gone out of here as a gift or a charity quilt. My time is coming!
Mostly they are for me. But I am gradually getting into making gifts. It's hard because I pick patterms and fabric I like, and I don't want to give it away! LOL
mine, mine, mine!
(my children taught me that. ) |
I start to make patterns I like, and then leave them as top till I find a home for them....I personilzed them if going to friend or family member by putting a backing on them they might like or their colors...I give a lot of tops to our church ladies to tie...We donate about 150 a year, so I stay busy
I have one on each of the guest beds and I kept my first one (a king size one, I am a NUT to have started with that big one).......all of the rest have been as gifts or charity.......I love to surprise a friend by just mailing a box to them, and they get a quilt, very unexpectedly....I made one for Mother's Day for my band director's mom (who is semi-invalid)..told her I had to borrow her mom, since I dont have mine any longer.... gave her mom quite a surprise....that is always fun.......I do lots for LINUS and am doing 3 for Quilts of Valor right now. Have also done for Quilts for Kids a couple of times. There is such a need in our world for HUGS.
I have one small wallhanging and a lap quilt all the rest I given away or donated.
I usually make quilts for family members. I have a few in the works for myself but they seem to get set aside when I have a reason to make one for someone else. I like to feel that a part of me is living with my family.
Everything turns into a gift :-D
Mostly gifts.
I Have One That I kept I donate and give to needy and church, family and friends,I have made over 100 quilts and i keep on going. I love to quilt!!!!!
So far I have given everyone of them away. But then again everyone has been made specificly for some one. I keep promising my self to make one for my own. But one of the things on my "Bucket List" is to make sure all of my 5 children and their significant others and my grand children,6 almost 7,so far, have a quilt.I'd also like to make one for each of my siblings, of which I have 7. I've made several for my mother.
I sort of feel guilty. I love picking out the pattern and the fabric and enjoy putting it all together. When I have spent so much time on quilts, I just want to keep them. All of our kids and grandkids have quilts that I've made FOR THEM. I've also given some to friends and I do make charity quilts and a quilt of valor. If I make a quilt for someone, I plan ahead that it is going to them. Then, I can give them away. But I love to look at my quilts. I see my quilting as a hobby mostly. I am finally making one for our King sized bed.

Mostly gifts. When it comes to the annual exhibition at my quilt class I usually have nothing left to exhibit!

I have a few wall hangings, tote bags, pillows & placemats that I made. When I started quilting 4 years ago my goal was to make a quilt for each of my 7 grandchildren. I have 6 finished and one WIP. Then my sisters wanted one, my son wanted one, and I do some QOV and charity quilts for my guild. I have a northwoods top done for our bed but too busy with everyone else to work on it.
I've made hundreds of quilts. We have 3 on each bed, a bunch of sofa quilts, 2 on the walls and some table runners. Many of my friends have bed sized quilts. My daughter has several. Most of my quilts go to charities like Project Linus Quilts of Valor. Habitat for Humanity, Quilts for Kids.
I always ask before I make a quilt for a friend or family member. Some folks don't value handmade things. They think they are inferior to storebought. Those folks aren't quilt-worthy; I give them gift cards. |

I have at least 1 in every room of the house, except the kitchen, 2 of the bathrooms, & DH's office. 1st floor bathroom has a Q top shower curtain (over the plastic one) & 3 mini-s on the walls. I have given away all the rest - about 100 - a mixture of wedding, baby & gifts to family members.
Ditto! All mine have gone out the door. Have finally started one to keep, but keep finding new gifts to be made. :-)
my first was just a gift to my sister in law whom my husbands mother still takes care of. This one is for me and the next two will be for my daughters that I hope they will keep and hand down.
I have kept two king sized for myself, plus many lap quilts, but mostly I make and give away. I love them all, but have no room for all of them. It is the thrill in the making, and the love of giving them away, for me.
