Just curious...
Have you kept most of the quilts you've made? Or do you sew them mostly for gifts? |
I have small wall hangings in the house, but have given away most of what I made. One of these days I will make a quilt for my own bed!
I only have one that I have kept. Most of mine are more throws than quilts as i like the piecing but not so good with the quilting. I am making one all for me right now out of the scraps from throws made for my children. I love making something specific for people I love.
Have made for us and for others. i like to keep them mostly, I stress over them to much when they are to be given away.
Given away :D I will make mine...some day :D:D:D
given away. i finally did after 5 years of a Pottery Barn quilt on my bed make a quilt for our bed, and actually now have 2...but everything else goes out the door as fast as i can get them done ;)
We have 6 grown children, 7 grandkids, many extended family. I make quilts for them all and they want more. I do make some for us too. If I'm attached to a finished quilt I keep it for awhile then pass it on.
I'd say I keep about half of what I make. I gift or sell the others.
I only have one that I made. The rest goes to my family and friends.
most of what i make goes to charitable organizations. it's a lot of fun for me to build up a pile and then find someplace that needs them. i have also sold some and made some as gifts for friends and family. i have kept only a very few for my own house. i have several "planned" for me but somehow rarely get around to doing them.
Mine are mostly gifts for family. I do have quite a baby quilt collection going and no babies to give to. Hmm, for now they sit in a basket!
I am still a beginner, but so far I have kept mine. They are just too much work to give away. But then, I have no grandkids, my son isn't interested, and my sister makes beautiful quilts that she has spread out to the family members already. Maybe in time I will give away, but for now, I am not.
I really admire those who can give them away. |
I have given everyone of mine away so far! I have started one for my spare bedroom, but can't seem to get motivated to finish it when I have so many other projects I'm working on. One of these days.
I kept about the first ten, given away about 30. Now, I make quilts that I like and when someone sees one they like, it becomes theirs.
I give almost everything away!
I make alot of donation quilt for a children's cancer program |

I have to say I'm half and half with how many quilts I've kept and given. I've collected vintage baby quilts b/c I love them and hope someday my kids will for their kids. If not I can keep them :D:D |
I only have one quilt that I have made. I do have some WIPs that will be for me.
Some I keep, some I give away (like my avatar) to famiy and friends, some are given to charity.
Since I have a larger family, 14 children, I make many quilts for my family but I have probably given away the same amount as donation quilts or gifts. I also do some consignment quilts but usually not more then two a year or so.

I have most of mine. I've made a few baby quilts for charity and 3 for friends but mostly they are stacking up here at home.
It's about half and half. I have kept many for myself, but have also given away just as many. Fortunately, I have given several to my husband so I still get to see them.
Mine have all been made for others -- however, I do have a couple of small wall hangings that I'm hanging on to. Who knows -- maybe this is the year I make a quilt for my bed???
I have two on my bed. The rest are gifts. My kids all have a number of quilts and so do other family members. I repaired a baby quilt for a friend and she cried when she got it back. She and her mom made it for her son. Her mom is gone now so it preserved something she had made. That was one of my most rewarding moments.
Gifts. One was meant as a gift but the colors ran so bad it had to stay. I have one, Pat has one - and all the rest left the building.
Most of my quilts have gone out the door as gifts.
Many have been donated |
I'd say I've given most away. But I have to confess, I made one a while back that was intended for someone else but I liked it so much that I kept it and made another for the gift.
I have made four times as many for gifts and charities as I have kept. Everyone in our family has a quilt, extended family too, and friends and a couple of charities. My DH quilts, too, and he is the same. All of his have been given away as gifts. I have 5 quilts that I have made, none bed sized. I am working on a king size for our bed, but it's been kicked to the bottom of the project pile several times already! :-) Some day it'll be done. Till then, I do have some others I want to make, and I'll make them large.
Most of my quilts go to someone else and/or a charity. I only have a few in my home.
I give most of mine away. I have 2 in the works for me but they keep getting on the back burner.
I have probably given away as many as I have kept. Running out of room here
though, so the next several will have to go lol! |
I am sewing quilts for gifts plus making a quilt for my own bed. Still trying to make up my mind on a pattern and colors. My hubby warned me "NO" pinks or pastel colors.
I have one wallhanging that I've kept. Everything else has gone to various charities - battered woman's shelter, wounded soldiers, fire department, etc. I've never made one as a gift, but am thinking about it.
Any that I've finished have been gifts. Most of the UFOs/WIPs are also destined to be gifts.
My daughter has claimed the one I just finished the top for, but I really do want to keep that one, as it has come out really looking good. Another one she told me should be for the friend who has commissioned one that I just can't get to come out like I want it to, but I'm going to eventually finish the commissioned one and have plans to do embellishment on the one DD says "looks like Jenny" and want to keep it as a large wall hanging. Other than those two, most likely all will find their homes with the proper recipients...whether I know who they're for yet or not! |
I have an oversized queen quilt that I made for me. I have made a couple of wall hangings that I have kept. One belongs to me and the other to my husband. His hangs in the livingroom and mine is in the sewing room. The rest I have given away to family and friends.
I keep, gift, and donate and even sell some.
Some are for me, some for family and friends, most for charities. For me the pleasure is in the making of the quilt. As soon as it's finished I usually lose interest in it.
I've kept a few for me, my daughter and granddaughter have many and my younger brother has 7....the rest of my family aren't really interested in them. I give scrappy block quilts to the homeless, I guess so far it's been 15 and I'm making 12 for this year. I give them to school where I brother teaches for the yearly fund raiser and I have shipped one to SC for a Catholic church there to raffle off...
I am making quilts for all my close family and friends and me. I have made 17 quilts so far. I have kept three: one for me and two on beds. The rest I have given to family and friends. I am making three quilts this year for my DS, DBIL, and DGS. That will finish immediate family. I also made one quilt to donate to CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates) Corridor of East Tennessee as a fundraiser. I love being able to share a lasting gift with family and friends. I have also made table runners and tote bags as gifts.
