1. There is no such thing as an UFO - it is a QIP - "quilt in progress"
2. Always do a label -years from now you will want to figure out it's age, etc. 3. All geese do not have to fly ---some may be resting! 4. Find a higher table to cut your fabric(to save your back) --I use the washing machine, kitchen counter or chest freezer top 5. Most of all, if at first you don't succeed -- put it away for a day and pick up a QIP. |

1.I insist on hand-quilting all of my projects.
2.I hand-quilt every other day if I'm working on a project. (I had "trigger thumb" once from "over-use", according to the doctor, and I knew where that came from.) I was working, daily, on a quilt I wanted to finish before an exhibit deadline. Learned my lesson. 3.I stop before i get tired 4.I try to select an interesting backing for my quilts. I used to use plain muslin. 5.I always embroider my initials and the date on my work. ( Maybe my grandchildren will find this interesting, one of these days.) |
1. Once in awhile it's okay to make an entire quilt using a real pattern.
2. It's okay to get rid of WITH WIT fabrics(What In The Heck Was I Thinking?). Stuff them into a box and mail them to someone who might actually use them. 3. The seam ripper is your friend. 4. When you doze off with the sewing machine running, it's time to stop. 5. When you sew through your thumb, it's okay to stop long enough to put a bandage on. Wrap it tightly enough that you don't bleed on the fabric. |
1. Read the measurement one more time before cutting.
2. If it's not going together right, walk away, come back later. 3. Pleasure is a requirement, perfection is not. 4. Visit the Quilting Board often. 5. Share your simplest pleasures and successes with other quilters. Non-quilters just don't understand. |
If you use a rotary cutter make sure you have a safety glove on. I didn't at one time. Now. I have a steel mesh safety glove EVERYTIME I PICK UP THAT MONSTER. I yelling from the Empire State Building for all who uses a rotary cutter. Please don't think it will not happen to you. YOU may be the next person.

1. Remember seam rippers can get dull
2. Lint rollers are wonderful for those little extra threads 3. You are filling your quilts with love when you are making them 4. Have Fun! 5. Don't be too hard on yourself. No one notices your mistakes. |

I will forgive myself for not having every point match. I will not quilt or work on sewing until 3:00 in the morning, I will stop at 2:00. I will remember that going to work with little threads attached to your clothing is a fashion statement. But my honest to gosh rule is "heed sound advice." I guess I'm always making fashion statements!!! My excuse is: My dog doesn't shed, so I make up for it with threads! |
