I'm glad to see this post as I'm just contemplating designs and wondered whether to use this method to add some extra bits to my next applique quilt.
Do the colours come out deep/clear enough onto the ready to print fabric pages, and do they fade at all after washing?
Thanks
Joanne

make sure to prepare your fabric for dyeing or use prepared for dyeing (pfd) fabrics or the ready made printer fabric sheets. let the ink (cure) completely dry then heat set. on the prepared sheets follow the instuctions. i always let mine set for at least 24 hours after running through the printer before i heat set it. i use an HP printer and always make sure i have new HP ink cartridges when i start a fabric printing project. (the inks in the 'refill' off brand cartridges is not dependable it washes out, fades, runs...ruins) most of the comparisons i've read say to use HP or Epson ink jet printers for the best long-term results.
it is wonderful to start experimenting with printing fabrics, have fun with it, just make sure to wash the sizing out of your fabrics. and white fabric is going to give more vibrant colors than natural muslin.

The main thing that I am sure most of you know or do, and I learned the hard way, when you take the backing off the photo, let it rinse in cold water for a bit and lay it out to dry on it's on. When I get ready to use it, I just touch it with an iron to make sure it's nice and smooth and then I can do whatever by putting it in my quilt.

Thanks again for all the information and tips. I sent for my ready to print sheets and new cartridges today, so hopefully I'll be printing by the weekend. :-D

I've been an HP fan for many years. They hold up well, print well, did my fabric photos well last year. We have two HPs now, one regular HP 5440 and one wireless for the lap tops -- That one does great color! HP Photosmart Premium.
