Problem batting
Anyone else ever have this problem? Usually I use cheap batting from wherever, but this time I ordered Hobbs Poly-Down Premium Polyester. When I unrolled it today I find this --
The "billowing" part does not want to lie down, and the "tight" parts will not stretch. What to do?

I have never encountered this with Hobbs polydown. I would let it relax overnight. If you are quilting by hand or on DSM (without a rack) it should sandwich up no problems.

Edited to add, I think you will find Hobbs to be much more forgiving of manipulation then cheap batting. So if you need to smooth it you don't have to use a really gentle hand. It can be man-handled pretty roughly without tearing and I have given it some pretty good tugs without it tearing as well.

Glad that worked for you.
I had some Quilters Dream cotton batting that looked sort of like that when I took it out of the package - it never did get smoothed out to my satisfaction - but the LAer said it worked fine and the finished quilt is fine.

I had written an email to Hobbs before you guys helped me out, and got this response from an executive vice president saying: "Please take a hair dryer on medium heat and medium fan speed and blow over the batting. This has been helpful when this has happened in the past. Please feel to call if I can help. I will be available on my cell phone over the weekend."
