Does it really matter, how to pronounce it? As long as it looks good sewn into a quilt, it's all good.

I lived in Indonesia for many years. It is pronounced bah (as in bah-bah-black-sheep) teek, with the emphasis on teek.

batik rhymes with critique, mystique, physique, Monique......

Hmmmm, I just realized that the bah-bah-black-sheep is probably pronounced in different ways in different parts of the country. What I mean by bah is something that rhymes with Ma,Pa, draw, saw, claw.

It was funny to see how people try to write what to say!
ba, like ahh, what the doctor wants you to say when he looks at your throat and teak like the wood. Stomp on the second part! I guess you can say it anyway you want when you are spending $$$$. And when you get it home, it is yours, and again you can call it yours, or whatever you want!

I had a friend that made an apleak (app leak) quilt. I told her I wasn't familiar with that. She brought it to show me. Ahhhhh Applique.
