I purchased a Creative Grid log cabin ruler but I have not used it to make actual blocks...just the ones we practiced on in class but they finished up nicely in the class I took.

I cut my logs the correct size. Also sometimes I Foundation piece my log cabins, especially if I'm using really skinny logs.

I never made one, planning to do one soon, received the accuquilt die for log cabin as a gift, wonder how that will work. I wonder what the process will entail, directions are sketchy.

I heard that ruler is really good at making accurate blocks. I'm thinking of buying one b/c I love log cabins.

All fantastic tips, I am thinking of doing a scrappy log cabin for a friend, but I've been feeling quite intimidated by it for some reason.

I use Eleanor Burns method. (Quilt In A Day). My very first quilt was as log cabin. Turned out fine!

Yes, E. Burns is what I use, too. Never had a problem and made several.

I like freezer-paper piecing. You sew along the paper edge and not through it so there is no paper to remove. The paper patterns can be removed and used several times. Here is the video that I learned from:

If I had to make one, I would use an Eleanor Burns pattern. She writes in a manner I can follow.... I did try one once, not gonna try again without her pattern.
