Purchasing batting by the roll
#31
I bought Hobbs 80/20 and won't buy it again, too thin for me. I doubled it. I am going back to high loft polyester batting that I usually use. Warmth without the weight. It out lasts the quilt fabric.

I quilt for QOV and one of the ladies associated with them was offering a discount roll of batting for us longarmers. So I thought I would be getting a bargain, NOT. UPS charged $82.00 for shipping.. If you are going to order a roll or batting online be advised that when it is shipped by UPS it is not shipped by weight, the batting roll only weighted 20lbs. When they ship something oversized it goes by the girth and the length and they have a formula they use to figure the shipping costs. So that being said I would check out LQS. There is on I go to where I get a roll or 96 wide Hobbs 80/20 for $99 dollars and I don't have to pay shipping. I buy that size because I use that size more often that king. I also like it because it is softer and drapes nicer than polyester.

Never have, but if I had the room to store it I sure would as it sounds like you can save a bunch. I bought several queen size and twin size and one crib size a couple of years ago when Connecting Threads had a sale. This works out very well for me. I purchased one twin size pack of black batting and used it on a dark quilt I made for my son, really worked out very well.
