Default Purple Bargello update and border suggestions....

I just finished the last strip of the center of a Bargello challenge that I gave myself. The pattern is Modius by Eileen Wright. Now that I have it finished, I am looking at borders, even though the original pattern doesn't call for them.

I like it enough that I want it large enough to "display" on my guest bed. So...I am thinking of extending the borders in the same color as the background, adding a small border of one of the colors, and then adding more background fabric.

Currently the center is 38 inches by 62. I guess it was designed as a wall hanging... It would look lovely in my purple sewing room...but I have no wall space for it.

My question is would you use a lighter purple or a medium purple as the small center border, where the other two will be the dark purple background fabric. Right now I am thinking of a four inch border on each side of a one inch center border, the center being either a light purple or medium.

I will be experimenting, of course, but I know some of you can really visualize things well and might give me guidance. Me, I will have to cut 1 1/2 inch strips and play with them to decide which fabric to use.

Here is what I have so far. (The lightest purples are not as white as they look, I promise.)

Thanks for any input.

If you have enough of the fabric, I might do Bargello chevrons around the quilt center.

I don't have any ideas on the border but just wanted to let you know that is an absolute beautiful quilt. I myself like borders too. Good luck on your decision.

Thanks. Who know, I may go with my favorite border, which is an inner light one and an outer dark one. I just haven't had time to play yet, and I thought I might try something different for this one. I like the chevron idea above, but I don't have enough fabric for that.

Just beautiful! It's hard to say what would look best as borders without seeing various options (at least, for me).

This is a really gorgeous bargello! You will have to lay some borders around it and then stand back to decide what looks great.

Well.....I just got back from Hobby Lobby, where I planned on buying 2 more yards of the background fabric. But there was none. It has been 2 months since I bought it, but, in my experience, Hobby Lobby seems to always have the same fabric. Not this time.

So....I am rethinking this. I do have a yard, as I always buy extra, but I originally intended to follow the pattern and not have borders.

Off to see what I can come up with...
