I guess I fit all but #6. I have made quilts for all family and friends. Some have multiple quilts. When I worked I was commissioned to make some. Now that I am retired that is not an option. My house is covered with quilts of all sizes and styles. Now I mostly make donation quilts. Trying to use what I have as my girls do not sew and who knows where my stash will go when I am gone. I’m trying to make it easy on them 😁

    I'm almost exclusively 2, - family and friends, with a few 3 - donation.
I only know one way to quilt, which is do it as well as I am capable of. I don't know how to do a sloppy job, even if it were only for a dog or cat who can't speak to critique my work.

For the joy of creating; satisfaction in using mind, hands, and machines!

I quilt because I like to create useful things that are still art; I have had a lifetime of hobbies that create pretty things that exist only to sit on a shelf or hang on a wall and be admired from time to time, and cleaned around. I like to make things with my hands, and quilting was the hobby of choice for the older women in my family when I was young. I picked it up from them, and took it in my own direction. I get to learn things and challenge my brain to figure out sizes and patterns and skills, and at the end of the day I still have a beautiful quilt that keeps me warm.

One of my friends told me that a quilt is like a hug from the quilter, and it makes me happy to think of them that way.

Because it will be pretty and that makes me happy. Solely for myself.

I get an inspiration-I will design that quilt. Usually, I get inspired by a fabric. I have a hard time parting with my quilts because I love them so much. Usually, they are very time consuming, and I spend a lot of time carefully selecting my fabric purchases (sooo pricey sometimes).
I usually give quilts to family and close friends. It warms my heart to see my quilt being used when I visit!
I did make a quilt every year for the live auction at a breast cancer walk. I used the event t-shirt. One year, the t-shirts were ordered too late to make a quilt, so I made a panel quilt. Someone won the quilt with a $1700 bid, then donated it back to be auctioned again for $900. Then, someone said that they loved the quilt and would donate $1000 if I'd make her a quilt. Well, it happened that I had 2 quilts to gift to my aunties. Long story short, I raised $3600 for Walk For Women that year with my quilts, and one aunt had to wait for her gift!

The other day my youngest son facetimed me while I was piecing some blocks. When I showed him he said " Let me guess. It's another quilt for Arden." haha! He was right. I can't stop sewing for my baby granddaughter these days.

Many times I start something just because I love it and then find someone to give it to or keep it. I have way too many UFO's though. I like piecing a lot more than quilting. If my FMQ were better I may feel differently but right now that's the story!

I mostly make quilts for kids in foster care. I use fabrics from my stash, same ones I use to make myself and anyone else quilts. I try to be as accurate with every quilt I make period. I don't make anything less than my best.

After having made a quilt for each child, grandchild and several friends, I am down to quilting mainly to avoid housework. I live in Texas and have never slept under one of my quilts, so I don't need them for comfort.
