putting a little pocket on the back of a quilt - have you done this?
Have any of you ever put a little pocket on the back of a quilt?
I am going to use up my scraps and make a quilt for my mom - - if I buy fabric she will give me what for. I think she will be ok with my scraps
But I am wanting to put a little pocket on the back for her rosary so it stays put while she is sleeping.
I think I can get the pocket put on, but just wonder how to manage the quilting without quilting the pocket closed
does anyone have pictures of such a thing or directions?
Thanks

If you sew the pocket in a corner, the binding will hold 2 sides and you only have to stitch 2 sides instead of 4. I machine sew my binding on the back and then machine sew on the front. So I only have a little of hand sewing for my label, or pocket.

I made a memory quilt once from the shirts of a friend's dad who passed away. I also used some of his hankies in the quilt top. I used one of the pockets from a shirt to enclose a label that I made from one of the hankies & used a button to close the pocket to keep the "hankie label" inside. I sewed the pocket in the corner & used the binding to hold 2 sides like krafty14 suggested, then I hand sewed down the third side. The top was loose but secured with the button.

I don't have a quilt with the pocket here to take a picture. They are all donated. I'll take a picture of the next one. It's very simple pocket to fit a book, hand stitched to the back after quilting.

One of my favorite older boy quilts is the disappearing four patch in cream and brown prints and putting the Call of the Wild book in the pocket. Jane Eyre for the older girls using pretty floral and solid prints in the disappearing hour glass block.
