Quality of Keepsake Calico fabrics from Joann's
#71
I just found many beautiful calicoes at marshalldrygoods.com for only $2.99 and they say they are 100% cotton first quality. I will order some from them instead of even trying Joann's at this time.

I have to say I don't like any Joann fabric, I made this Big beautiful 2 color log cabin for my Daughter for her wedding, they loved it! I took care of it and washed and dried it. Well the top got all bally with nubs on it! I was so disappointed with all the work and quilting plus my time for a quilt to do that! I now use the best I can afford and no Joann or Walmart fabric! She still has it but it had holes and the seams are coming apart and can't be fixed. Maybe some day I will take it and make something else from it maybe a Bear. Only thing now after 15 years they are getting divorced, this is sad for me!

Years ago I would not have given a second thought to purchasing Keepsake Calico material. Now I check every bolt (hold it up and look through a part); found some you can easily through, some that are good. It's been disappointing since I have found some patterns I would love to buy but put them back due to what I think is an inferior piece of material.

I just got a couple of yards of it last weekend and it feels ok to me. I haven't washed it yet though. I very rarely buy fabric at Joann's since I like browsing online for fabric and I just don't see that much selection there.
I got this for vines so I'm not too concerned about it anyway.

ETA: I see some of them are made in China, some in South Korea, and some don't say at all. Does anyone know what difference these locations might mean to the quality?

I was in Joann's just today and got several pieces of Keepsake.
I found mine to be quite satisfactory and the fact they were on sale helped, too. LOL

i buy more fabric, from more places, than any sane human being ought to.
i think it's fair to say that you can find great stuff just about anywhere ... and some very definitely not so great stuff, too.
when it comes to the Keepsake Calicos, in particular, i think i agree with those who recommend you buy them only in person. i'll add that i only buy them when they're on sale for a deep discount.
and ... yeppers, fer sher ... i have a ton of them. and, naturally, i like all of them.
