I'm finishing up a quilt top for my sister. She has chosen a fleece material for the backing of the quilt. My question is this:

Should I put batting in the middle or should I just use the backing and top together? Will that be acceptable, or does it need the middle?

Any advice would be great! Thanks!

i haven't personally used this method but do have friends that swear by fleece backings. I've seen it used on toddler quilts but not on larger bed sized. My friends do not use any batting for their projects.
I have used minkee as a backing and over time as it thins, I'm wishing I'd have used a thin batting with it.....however, minkee isn't as thick as the fleece and I'd imagine that quilting it would be difficult with the addition of batting.I'm not sure how helpful this is, but do wish you best of luck with your project.

I imagine it would work either way. Fleece is fairly stable, so if you are using cotton batting, you may end up with uneven puckering.

Thanks! I think I will just go ahead and use the fleece and call it good. Thanks for the tips.

I used fleece for a backing on a snuggle quilt, no batting, and it worked out quite well. :D

Would suggest you wash both fleece backing and top before you quilt to reduce uneven shrinkage.
