I have been using this method for the past couple of days to actually get rid of a stack of fabric that I am sick of (Made too many quilts with this, and my eyes are tired of it!!). This is not a new technique, it's a new take on the dimensional bow-tie block.

I get the best results are when I press the two center seams OPEN before I line them up and stitch the third seam. Looks really great! To get rid of my stash, I just cut my squares into the largest size possible, which turned out to be 7-1/4", for a finished block size of 13-3/4". I have enough fabric including the contrast center squares to make a pretty nice sized lap quilt.

If you want a 6" finished size block, start with 3-1/2" squares. For a finished size of 9", use 5" (charm) squares. You can also play around with the size of the center square, it doesn't necessarily have to be the same size as the outer squares. Sure love the look of this fun block with the turned back edges. I'll post a picture when I get it done. Here is my plan so far:

I saw this done with 3 half square triangles to make an attic windows block at a quilt show yesterday, and I went durr why didn't I try that before. NO Y SEAMS it was so easy.

Yeah it was one of those ahha monents. The guy demonstraighting it sold a set of 6 templates and a instruction sheet for $22. (did not buy) The templates were so you could center your item in the center square fr the attic window.
