Wink How to charge for tabletopper

I have a friend who's mother died last year and had some Christmas fabric cut into squares. My friend would like me to make a table topper out of these squares for her. How do you charge for this? By the hour, or what? I charge $15/hour for other sewing I do for people. Should I just charge by the hour or what do you think? Thank you so much for all the help I have gotten from this board.

why charge her. Her Mother died. Make a easy one for her and just give it to her. I think giving it to her will make you feel really good too.

I agree, make it simple but nice, not a whole lot of hours.....and then give as a gift, in memory of.....
a table topper is so small and simple....should not take a whole lot of hours and you will put a smile on the daughters face.

If she insists on paying you something, ask her to make the check out to the charity of her mothers' choice or perhaps donate to the church her mother attended, assuming she went to a church. Another "memorial" for her mother. I tend to agree with not charging anything in this special case. Keep it simple.

She said when she brought the fabric and a quilt for me to finish that she would pay me. Insisted n paying me for completing the rag quilt her mom started. Thank you for this idea. I love it! You are so right, I didn't think about not charging her because she wanted to pay me for the things I did for her. I like the idea of having her make a donation to her mom's favorite charity.

There are over 300 of these 4X4 Christmas squares. I'm going to see if she wants me to make a table topper for her siblings, too. I could still make a quilt for her.

Thank you for reminding me of this. I'll see if she'll be OK with this.

300 squares????? Wow! I hope her donation is generous! I thought you were going to make one runner! Yikes! I'd still do just one for no charge.

You should not obligate yourself to using up all of those blocks without some compensation . Your post mentioned only one runner. Now multiples? A quilt too? Too much!
