Default Question For EQ5 Owners

I am wondering if EQ5 is getting too outdated. I tried to add some fabric colors yesterday and they would not go in. Is anyone else having problems like this?

Should I consider getting EQ7?

The latest version is EQ8. I haven't used it too much so far, but I find it easier to use than EQ7.

I checked the EQ website and I don't see any way to upgrade from EQ5. They also don't have upgrades to EQ7 anymore, because EQ8 is the current version. If you buy EQ8, I have no idea if all of your files from EQ5 are compatible. You might want to call or email them to find out what your options are. Here is a link to the website:

I would check with EQ as well. I've never loaded any fabrics into EQ5 so can't answer your question. I don't use it often so it still suits my needs regarding designing blocks/quilts but then again, I'm not overly creative, lol.

Shot in the dark here, I started with EQ6 so I really have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm wondering if maybe your EQ5 image files are too bloated? Can you try deleting a few fabrics and see if the new ones are able to load up? Also, are the file sizes small enough?

I had upwards of 1200 fabrics loaded, and deleted about 400 of them. That was about 8 months ago. This is before I get to the import section. It just will not let me open the pictures of the fabric. I don't understand why it suddenly decided not to run. Anyway, thanks for your input. I will take a look at their site.

I don't have many fabrics loaded in my EQ5, but I just checked and I was able to access them. But... I am also on an old PC running with Windows XP so maybe that might make a difference?

Thanks Thimblebug, I can get to the ones that are there. It will not let me put in any new ones. Jim is still trying to see if he can get around it.

Did you by any chance upgrade the operating system recently? I am wondering if there might be a compatibility issue with Windows 10. Also, Windows recently made a security update that I think affects some of the operations on my computer.

I know that when I did the W10 update on my laptop, poof... I am not able to access things that I know are there...... someone with more computer savvy may be able to access them... but for me they are lost
