I would go with the suggestion of Quilters Dream Request. This is their thinnest batting but still quilts up nicely. Quilters Dream is my go to batting. I just vary the loft according to my needs. My last one I used their Supreme which is thicker one. They also have a variety of fibers other than cotton, if that is what you need. Look at their website for info.

My first posting. I use flannel a lot for the backing of blankets and quilts. I piece the top using blocks and embroidery and just use the flannel as the backing. I live in Houston and the flannel gives just enough warmth without being too heavy. I usually use a stitch in the ditch method or fun and done and the flannel works great. I have also done some echo quilting around the embroidery designs. I always wash my flannel before using it. Good Luck.

I don't know about weight or heat but I would worry that I would get a big wrinkle quilted in. It wouldn't be too noticeable since it would be inside but I had to really watch when I backed a quilt with flannel. The flannel kept trying to wrinkle and I couldn't really feel it when quilting on my machine.

I recently did a quilt with wool and am in love with it! It's a dream to quilt--either by machine or hand, is light weight yet warm--but because it "breathes", it also doesn't overheat the person under it. and it hold's it's loft nicely. I will definitely be using it more often--only thing that isn't "fun" is the extra cost.

My daughter wanted the same thing. A nice cool, lightweight quilt. I just used the quilt top and a regular sheet for the backing. I had it long armed so it would be smooth. The LAer was unsure but it worked, as she had never done one without something as a batting. My DD loves it.
